The project

I sighed for the umpteenth time as the professor, Mr Kane, went on and on about the past heroes who had died during the past wars.

I rolled my eyes when a girl lifted her hand, perhaps to ask a question. I tuned out everyone's voice and went on doodling in my book whilst waiting for the class to be over.

I love history, but I wasn't interested in listening to what I already knew.

"Miss Jeremy!"

I lurched as someone exclaimed my name. I gaze around the classroom with wild eyes, before latching my eyes on Mr Kane who was in front of me.

I wonder how long I had been out since I didn't notice him walking to my seat.

"May I ask what you were thinking about?" He mumbled with raised brows.

"N-no." I stuttered, flushing.

A girl whose seat was next to mine giggled, and I noticed some of the students were trying their best to suppress their laughter.

"Perhaps, she's thinking about the child she would breastfeed later on." An annoying voice snickered.

He smirked, and I glimpsed a faint dimple on the right side of his cheek.

I was a sucker for guys with dimples because I find them extremely cute. However, he was different.

He was still a jerk, and forever he would be.

After having a bad start the first time we had met, I avoided him like a plague. Even, I had gone further to move my seat a few centimetres away from his and I had lied to some of the teachers who asked the reason I did it that I was nearsighted and couldn't see where my seat had been situated.

Luckily, they had believed me and I had successfully escaped from the jerk.

Today, I didn't have much luck since someone had shifted my seat back to its normal position before I arrived at school.

More so, the jerk had tried his best to make me want to speak to him by tapping nonstop on my chair, but I had resisted the urge.

Though I was bored out of my mind due to the topic being taught, I would rather listen to what Mr Kane was blabbing than him.

I sent jerky face a withering look, and he shrugged it off.

"You aren't exempted, Asher. Your mind has been on your phone since the class began." Alan pointed out.

Asher?

What an interesting name! I stared at him once more and pondered what the parents had been thinking about to call him that. He looked more like someone that should be called a Jerk rather than that.

Asher narrowed his eyes at Alan, then tutted. "Oh, I forgot. She is your wife, that's why you are trying to defend her."

Alan shrugged, "Whether she is or not, you shouldn't say anything since you weren't listening too."

Asher and Alan eyed each other, I thought both would continue until Asher broke it off.

He chuckled whilst shaking his head, "You should be glad your husband is defending you."

"I'm not her husband!"

"He's not my husband!"

Alan and I yelled in unison.

I glared at him, and my hands itched as I felt a strong urge to smack his pretty face.

"Shut up..." I began, but the teacher interrupted my rude remark.

"That is alright." He stated firmly. "You should know the punishment for not listening in my class is quite severe."

Mr Kane didn't look harsh to me. Rather, he seemed better. He wasn't like my teachers back at home because I could list out some of the punishment I would be doing now.

I escaped most during my high school days since I wasn't a rebel. Also, I had heard some stories from my older siblings about how lecturers penalize erring students in the university.

Either by chasing them out of the class, which was the most severe of it all or asking some questions which were most times impossible to answer.

I waited for Mr Kane to say what my punishment would be whilst holding my breath.

I stared at him whilst he was contemplating what to do with me. He was quite young, maybe in his late thirties. Though he was bald, he looked good.

His onyx eyes narrowed as he searched the back pocket of the black slack pants he donned.

He cleared his throat before he began. "Take this."

He extended the A4 paper with him to me, and I wonder what was written in it because he gave Asher a copy too.

Slowly, I opened mine. My eyes bulged as I read the content aloud, "Write on the history of this country's royal family."

"You are to pair up with him." He pointed to Asher, "I would be expecting your submissions next week."

"Over my dead body to pair up with her on this absurd project!" Asher raved.

His hazel orbs blazed, and he flung the paper across the room.

For a second, I thought he would stalk towards the teacher to beat the heck out of him. However, he remained in his seat.

"No matter how furious you are, I want it next week. If you are not on talking terms with her, make amends now." After Mr Kane said that, he left the classroom.

I grimaced as I glanced at Asher.

He clenched and unclenched his fist. Then his eyes travelled to Alan before it settled on mine.

"I won't have anything to do with you or anyone in this class." He ground his teeth together.

"It's just a project, Colton. Stop getting worked up." Alan said.

"Shut up, bozo." Asher retorted. "So much for not wanting attention to myself, Damn it!"

Like Alan had said, it was nothing to get worked up on. Yet, Asher made it look like a big deal.

Perhaps, I repulsed him. That was the only explanation for his behaviour right now.

I rolled my eyes, then sat on my chair.

It wasn't like it would be my first time writing alone after my partner had bailed out on me. What worries me now was, where would I begin from?

I didn't know much about here since I arrived here last week, and writing about the Royal family might be difficult for me to do alone.
