Chapter 9: Indebted To Him

When Curtis left, Kendra was alone. She sat on the bed dully and sadly cried. She was dirty now. What should she do? How could she face her fiancé in the future? How could she be his bride? She was so frustrated.

“I am so sorry.” Kendra cried and murmured. She felt more desperate. It had been 15 years. Did her fiancé abandon her? Was their engagement just a joke? Kendra soaked herself in sadness and looked out through the window. After a long time, she finally calmed down. She wiped her tears and wanted to stand up. At that time, a maidservant walked in.

“Miss Miller, let me help you.” The maidservant said.

Kendra nodded and said nothing. She went downstairs after cleaning herself.

Lendon sat at the dining table elegantly and enjoyed his food.

Seeing Kendra appear, Curtis nodded to her politely and invited her to sit down.

Kendra just stood in front of Lendon and stared at him. “Mr. Martin, we need to talk.” She immediately said,

Compared to last night, Lendon looked more prominent and a real gentleman right now. An elegance was screaming on his fine movements.

“Good,” Lendon stopped eating and wiped his mouth with a napkin. He looked at Curtis. Quickly, Curtis understands what his Lord wants.

Curtis walked to Kendra and gave a file to her. “Miss Miller, this is a contract. Please have a look at it.”

Puzzled, Kendra looked at Curtis and asked, “What does this contract all about?” She felt something was wrong and frowned.

“Mr. Martin asked a professional lawyer to prepare this contract according to your current situation. It will end when the test is over.” Curtis explained briefly.

Kendra looked at the contract and got angry. She threw the contract on the floor and yelled, “I won’t sign it. Let me go.”

Lendon said nothing and ignored her tantrums.

Curtis smiled and picked the contract up. “Don’t be angry, Miss Miller. If you are not satisfied with it, we can make some amendments.”

“It’s not about the contract. Why do I need to sign it? You can’t force me.” Feel aggrieved, she retorted. Her anger reached the boiling point she could control. The nerve of this man to force her.

“We won’t force you. It’s your decision to sign it or not.” Curtis emphasized, “But if you refuse to sign it, we still can’t let you go.”

Kendra felt so annoyed. She rushed to Lendon and grabbed his right hand, “Lendon, you can’t force me!”

“Will you sign it or not?” Lendon glanced at Kendra's hand that was tightly gripping his right hand, amused by her stubbornness.

“No. You're sick!” Kendra insisted. If she signed it, she must do everything as Lendon told. How could she sell herself to Lendon? What was the difference between Lendon and demons?

Hearing Kendra’s answer, Lendon was not angry. Instead, he smiled and calmly replied, “Honey, I know you want to leave here and go abroad. If you sign it, I will help you. You can choose a famous foreign university and get rid of your family forever. If you don’t sign it, you have to stay here forever. Take it or leave it?”

Was Lendon threatening her? Kendra felt so mad, loosened her grip on Lendon's hand, and clenched her fists tightly. “You're sick! You're sick! No, I won’t sign it.” She shouted loudly. Even if Lendon killed her, she wouldn’t sign it. Curtis held his breath when he heard Kendra's words. He felt afraid for her yet admired her for having enough courage to refuse his Lord.

Kendra turned around and wanted to leave, but she accidentally lashed out some expensive bowls nearby and broke into pieces as they touched the floor.

Hearing the unmistakable sound, everyone was shocked. Kendra looked at the pieces and knew she made trouble.

For a minute, no one said a word and waited for Lendon's reaction. Everyone held their breath and anticipated Lendon would throw a pit of anger.

Surprisingly, Lendon just stood up and walked to Kendra with a smile. He looked at her and calmly said, “Honey, did you know that I paid 20 million dollars to buy these bowls. You just broke them into pieces. How do you make up for it, by cash or credit?”

Terrified, Kendra didn’t answer him. She couldn't find words to say.

Lendon stretched his right hand and grabbed the back of Kendra's neck. He leaned closer, their breath touched each other, and whispered, “Honey, can you pay all of these?” Lendon raised his eyebrows as he looked at Kendra's terrified face. He knew that Kendra’s family abandoned her, and she was just a poor student now.

Kendra was in a panic. Even when she was kicked out of her family, she didn’t feel so sad. How could these bowls be so expensive? Suddenly she wanted to cry. Robert would never give her so much money to pay for it, let alone she was not his daughter anymore.

“I will sign the contract,” Kendra quickly answered and bit her lips. She had to give in.

“But I don’t want it now,” Lendon teased.

“What do you mean?” Kendra frowned and wanted to smack his handsome face.

He let go of her, “Curtis, let the lawyer modify the contract within 20 minutes. Make a list of everything she needs to do. Don’t forget the price.” Lendon narrated.

Lendon wanted Kendra to pay the damages by working with him. He would not let this little woman escape away from his grasp.

Within minutes, Kendra was now heavily indebted because of her clumsiness.

After 20 minutes, Kendra got her new contract. She signed it without hesitation and gave it to Lendon.

Satisfied, Lendon laughed and teased her again, “Good! Curtis put her on board.”

Kendra looked at Lendon and felt puzzled. She suddenly had a bad feeling. What did he mean?

Curtis walked to Kendra and smiled. “Miss Miller, from today on, you are a maidservant.” He declared.

“Maidservant?” Kendra asked unbelievably and pointed to herself. How would she become a maidservant quickly?

"Lendon! Asshole! You did this on purpose!" She screamed. Amused, Lendon shrugged his shoulders.

Curtis gave Kendra a uniform and said, “Yes. The contract said clearly that you will work as a maidservant from now on. Mr. Martin will give you enough salary. But at the same time, your responsibility is also special.”

“How special?” Kendra asked angrily.

“You can look at the contract,” Curtis reminded her.

Kendra browsed the contract quickly and saw her special responsibility: Accept all kinds of tests and cooperate with Lendon's treatment.

“This is ridiculous!” She even got angrier and shouted, “What does this contract mean? A trapped? Does it include sleeping with him every month?”

“You owe me money now. You don’t have a choice. If you can’t fulfill the contract, I can punish you. It’s also included in it.” Lendon said lazily.

What the hell? Why didn’t she check the contract clauses first? Kendra felt so hard to breathe and leaned against the table.

“Kendra, this is your uniform.” Curtis reminded her again.

Kendra took a deep breath and said, “Mr. Martin, I have one condition.”

“What?” Lendon looked straight at her.

“The contract says that I can go to school from Monday to Friday. I can only stay here on weekends.” Kendra said.

“No way.” Lendon grabbed Kendra’s chin and said, “You must come back every day.”

“But…”

“Refusal not accepted. I will arrange a driver for you,” Lendon cut her words. He wouldn’t allow Kendra to refuse his demand.

“Fine.” Kendra sighed and gave in.

“Get out of here now.” Lendon smiled and said. But before Kendra could leave, he grabbed her again and kissed her lips. Ignoring the presence of everyone around them.

Stunned, Kendra could only push him, and she felt terrible about the way he treated her. She became his maidservant. Though she didn’t need to do much work, she was not free anymore. She cursed Lendon several times through her mind.

***

Monday, Kendra got up early. She had a separate room, different from other maidservants. After breakfast, Kendra went to school.

The Law School of Harvard was very famous, so the campus was always busy. Kendra’s luxury car didn’t attract much attention. Anyway, the school never lacked wealthy students.

Kendra got off and thanked the driver, then she turned around to leave.

“Miss Miller,” The driver called Kendra and said politely, “Mr. Martin told me to pick you up at 6 pm.”

“I know,” Kendra said. Where else could she go? Lendon didn't have to keep an eye on her so closely.
