Retreat

“Roar!”

“Roar!”

Stunned, Carissa watches as dozens of untamed dogs rush towards them from all directions all of a sudden.

One of the dogs leapt into the air and pounced on Carissa.

Carissa pulled out her sword and swung it towards the oncoming wild dogs.

Blood splashed onto her white coloured robe when the dog’s body was split into two.

However, Carissa didn’t stop there as more wild dogs pounced on her.

Militiades and his two friends were also busy fighting the wild dogs. Soon after, Ulrica, Ingo and therefore the remaining hunters joined them.

The Tane’s family stood still and watched this scene smugly.

They gritted their teeth in excitement and couldn’t wait for the wild dogs to tear the hunters apart.

Quintessa swung her sword towards the 2 oncoming wild dogs and turned around to see Carissa, who was battling 6 dogs that were surrounding her.

“Your Highness!”

Quintessa was about to run and help her and didn’t notice the oncoming dogs behind her.

“Agh!”

Quintessa screamed in pain when the dog got a bite on her left leg.

She lifted her sword and was about to swing it at the dog when she felt a sharp pain in her right shoulder.

“Agh!”

Another scream erupted from her mouth. She was still struggling to shake off the dog on her right shoulder when she noticed another dog staring at her.

Her right hand was weakened by the pain in her right shoulder, and blood had already drenched her white robe.

A small chunk of skin on her left leg was ready to enter the dog’s jaws, she could feel it.

Quintessa clenched her teeth as her eyes turned red.

She was not going to be a burden to anyone!

She raised her left hand and held her index finger and middle finger towards the sky. She wanted to use thunder to activate her ability.

Ingo, who was nearby, saw her situation and shouted, “Quin, no!”

He swung at the last dog around him and sped towards Quintessa, slashing the dog on her shoulder and leg.

Quintessa’s vision blurred as she had lost too much blood, and her body bowed back, poised to fall to the ground.

No.

When Ingo watched her body collapse, he grabbed her and held her in his arms while glancing around at their friends.

Militiades, Drusus, and Ulrica were almost finished, and Carissa…

Ingo’s heartbeats became faster.

Where’s Carissa?

She was killing the remaining hounds with her sword when he turned around.

Ingo exhaled deeply, relieved.

Carissa wiped the blood from the corner of her mouth with her finger before walking towards the standing Tane family, who had been shaken by the reverse event.

Militiades, Drusus, and Ulrica, who had successfully defeated the remaining wild dogs approached the Tane’s family.

The remaining hunters who had survived formed a line behind them.

Carissa took a stand in the middle of them and locked eyes with the Tane family’s leader.

“Are you going to die or surrender?” Carissa inquired icily.

Tisiphone, who was standing beside her father, sneered at the woman in front of them who had the appearance of a goddess.

“Father, let me take care of these ‘ghosts'."

Signy scoffed shortly after she spoke, “Sister, I’m confident Lydos can handle them just fine.” As she spoke, she leaned on her husband’s chest, Lydos Suiz.

“No need to bother,” Badulf scoffed as he glanced at his two sisters. "Tane’s family's new master will be me. For me, they’re a piece of cake.”

Hengist Tane’s wife, Eydis Uliano, observed her husband’s dark visage and yelled at her children, “Shut up!”

‘What a gorgeous woman,’ Hengist thought, as he looked at the woman in front of him and scratched his chin thoughtfully, ’If only I could tame her...′

“Lady, why don’t we negotiate peacefully?”

When Carissa heard this, her eyes twitched. She couldn’t help but sneered as she looked at the old man in front of her.

Even though she had never read another species’ mind before, she was able to do so for a brief while.

‘What a vile man! I didn’t think an old vampire still harbour that kind of thought.’

“I don’t negotiate. I decide.”

Carissa raised her sword and bit her index finger before dropping her blood onto the sword.

The vampires had never seen what a hunter could do before, so they were fascinated to see the blood turn into a flame of fire in a matter of seconds.

Carissa no longer wielded a common hunter’s sword in her hands. She wielded a fire sword that had been activated!

Except for Ingo, who was holding the unconscious Quintessa in his arm behind them, Militiades, Ulrica, and Drusus followed suit.

Carissa rushed up to Hengist, a sinister expression on her face.

Tisiphone also draws her sword and charges at Carissa.

Militiades went after Badulf, Ulrica went after Signy, and Drusus went after Lydos.

Cling! Clang!

Ingo looks nervously at the scene in front of him.

They’ve spent too much time fighting the vampires. If they continue to fight, the vampires may receive assistance at any time.

Therefore, he remained fully alert and activated his hearing senses from a distance of 30 kilometres.

He was annoyed that he couldn’t join them to end the family. But...

He sighed as he glanced down at Quintessa.

Forget about it. He’d be on the lookout for them.

‘We have to hurry!’ he mind-linked them.

For a brief moment, Carissa was startled. Ingo was right. She was so focused on defeating Tisiphone that she didn’t notice that the vampires were attempting to stall for time.

She switched tactics and attacked more aggressively, forcing Tisiphone to take a few steps back as she tried to block the attacks.

Carissa waited until Tisiphone looked straight into her eyes before activating another one of her abilities. Her eyes flashed and watched as Tisiphone squinted her eyes before her body dropped to the ground.

“Tisiphone!” Eydis screamed, concerned.

‘I’ll deal with her later. Now...’ Carissa turned her attention towards Hengist.

She charged towards him with her swords lifted when she sensed an oppressive aura approaching them.

“Damn it!” she cursed and came to a complete stop in her tracks.

Lydos had been knocked down by Drusus when Carissa shouted, “Retreat!”

She pointed her index finger and middle finger towards Signy and Badulf. Immediately after, a bolt of searing lightning shot from her fingers towards them and shocked their body.

Militiades, Ulrica and Drusus immediately ran to the way they came from, with Ingo and Quintessa in his arms.

The remaining hunters followed them without hesitation.

Carissa was following close behind them when she felt someone grabbing her arms.

“Agh!”

Pain shot up her right arm when the person brought her hand to her back.

Hearing Carissa’s shouts, the four of them stopped and were about to help her when she shouted,

“Go!”

She lifted her foot and stomped on the ground, releasing her aura around her and the people behind the person grabbing her.

Hunters could walk at ease around this aura, but not the other species. Their feet would be stuck on the ground as if a heavy stone was placed on their feet.

However, this aura is the ability that could greatly consume a hunter's power.

The hunters didn’t hesitate and disappeared into the night just as it downpoured.
