Jared watched wordlessly as Mary bid her family goodbye, she was all teary and hugging everyone, the blue dress she was wearing flowing majestically about her, she was smiling radiantly, the epitome of a woman thoroughly loved, he smirked, and he would soon freeze up her joy soon.
He would make her pay for subjecting Evangeline to such torture at the hands of her father just to get her married, they were all a dangerous bunch.
The whole family came to meet him where he stood patiently waiting for the part by the carriage Nicholas had sumptuously provided

The ride to the Stone mansion was quiet and long, Jared did not say a single word to Mary throughout the ride and neither did he stop to give her any rest. She was as worn out as the horse by the time they got to Western Creek. The retinue of carriages following Nicholas Sanders was befitting that of a king, musicians and entertainers followed the carriages as they trudged slowly towards the Stone Mansion.
