Chapter 3: Is There a Moon Goddess

Katerina's pov

    Walking into the pack house the alpha is waiting by the door for me he grabs me by my hair and throws me to the ground.

   "You ungrateful orphan! Even though you're the reason your parents died we still took you in and gave you a place to stay and in return you disrespect our future Luna by running into her and making her fall?" He shouts in my face his alpha aura at what feels like full force, Ryder obviously lied to him. 

     "And I find out that you're so ungrateful that you want to become a rouge when you turn 18? Not happening you'll be my salve then when Ryder steps up you'll be his slave."

   By this time Luna Jocelyn has walked up "I only allowed you to attend school so you wouldn't be stupid but I guess it didn't work you will be in your room all day everyday if we don't need you. You'll never leave this pack house again."

    I go to speak but he kicks me shutting me up. "You do not speak to me unless I tell you to, you peasant!"

   "Now go and prepare dinner you will not be eating tonight or for the next week. Do you understand? Oh and if my border patrol or anyone else finds you trying to leave i will kill you."

   It takes a second for me to catch a breath to answer "yes, alpha" he kicks me in the side again and walks away. As I get up and start preparing dinner I find myself wondering if there is even a moon goddess. Why would she put me through this?.

One month later...

Katerina's pov

    My ribs are almost healed they haven't really been abusing me as much because we have 1 month until Ryder's and my birthday. They are planning a huge celebration for him because when he turns 18 and mates to Jess theyre going to have the mating ceremony and alpha and Luna ceremony over those couple of days. Then, soon after that Alpha Carter will step down as alpha and Ryder will be the new alpha.

   They have a lot of planning to do so they do not really have time for me. They arnt making me help because they do not want me to ruin it. I have not been to school since the day the alpha and Luna found out about my plans to become rouge. I have given up on the chance of having a mate. I am doomed to this tournament for the rest of my life. 

   I can start to feel the energy from my wolf with it being so close to my 18th birthday I heal a little faster than before the bruises do not stick around as long. I'm sitting in my room and I hear the Luna and Jess approaching. Jess turned 18 last week and is excited for Ryder to turn 18.

   "Luna, I found my mate." I hear Jess say sadly.

   "What? I thought for sure your mate was my son! Did you reject him? You're suppose to be the next luna!" The Luna says in shock.

  "Of course I rejected him but it still hurt when the mate bond broke." I hear as their footsteps and voices get quieter.

   She rejected her destined mate to become Luna. I do not understand why anyone would do that. Just then I hear footsteps again they heavier. My door opens and there stands Ryder he stands bigger than my door frame.

  "Hey little b***h its time for you to prepare dinner we have guests." He snaps

   I get up and go to walk up the door and he shoves me down and walks away. I get up and head towards the kitchen and start dinner. 

  Once everyone is served im sent back to my room to wait for then to finish eating so I can clean up and eat the scraps for dinner.

   It is now one week until Ryders birthday celebration. Everytime I see him and he's not looking at me I find myself staring at him. Its weird I hate him but I feel this draw to him. The abuse from him has gotten worse so I dont understand why I'm feeling this pull towards him. 

   Jayce's birthday is today and he found out that hannah is not his mate. He left hannah and decided he would whore around until he found her. He has been avoiding me so his abuse is not as bad anymore. But Ryder and Jess find every chance they get to beat me. 

  Hopefully, because we are suppose to be having guests the beating will slow. The alpha, beta and a few members of the Solar Moon pack and the Golden Mountain pack will so be here tonight visiting and staying until the celebration. Its adding at least 50 mouths to dinner preparation. Our pack is not a huge pack with only 400 member. So in not use to cooking for so many people. Luckily they are having the celebration catered and ill have to stay in my room. I have heard that the alpha and beta of strongest pack in the area is suppose to attend, the black wolf pack, I hear they get their name because every alpha has had a huge black wolf. But they are not suppose to be here until the night before the celebration.

   As I am preparing dinner for everyone the Luna comes into the kitchen and hits me in the back of the head

  "You are embarrassing me you need to prepare food faster we have hungry guests out there."

   I lower my head and try to cook faster. I just want to retreat to my room. I start to get lost in my own thoughts when the Luna walks away. Alphas can find their mates at an earlier age than normal wolves so they have their Luna. Would he of known Jess wasn't his mate? Perhaps he did not care. He must of decided Jess would be his chosen mate. I find myself sad about this and I can not figure out why.

   Dinner is finished and served and I retreat back to my room to wait until its times to clean up. I dose off due to lack of sleep and find myself dreaming of a huge white wolf with bright, light teal eyes and a moon on its forehead.

   I get woken up to a kick in the ribs. I scream out in pain and look up to see Ryder standing above me. 

  "Get up orphan you should of been down there cleaning 10 minutes ago!" He yells and walks out.

   I silently cry to myself for a moment then I get up and go start cleaning up. Ryder comes in and throws plates of food on the ground and makes more of a mess for me to clean up. I just want this torment to end.
