Chapter 1

 EMILY’s POV

“This will be your room Emily, feel free to decorate as you wish. You will find in the attic what you need.”

Mrs Emerson sounds and looks just as nervous as I am, well not that I’m nervous. I know I won’t be here long enough to even decorate the damn room.

The entire house is anyway too classy

for me. I remember Mrs Johnson,

Oh yes, that was my previous foster Mother, I sold her Chinese cutlery

for pot, that’s why my case was reviewed and Mr And Mrs Emerson was called in to help with this troublesome child.

I rolled

my eyes when I think back to how Mrs Johnson threw a tantrum and called

the cops on me. I had to spend a night in a holding cell, not that it was my first time.

“Okay, I will leave you to settle in. Dinner should be ready in 10 minutes.”

She holds her hands together in prayer, either to ease her friction or to make me feel more comfortable. Either way, she looks ridiculous.

“Hey.” a soft voice greets behind the door.

“Hey.” I greet back.

“You must be Emily. I’m Ivory.” the little girl holds out her hand to greet me.

“Nice meeting you, Ivory.”

“This was my old room. Mom said that you will need a bigger room.” Ivory looks around. Clearly, she misses her room. I don’t respond to her question or announcement. Was it a question? Maybe she wants me to decline the room so she can have it back.

“Don’t worry Ivory, I won’t be here long, soon you’ll have your room back.” She looks confused, her eyes pulled into a frown.

“Why? Are you leaving?”

“No, well after school yes, then I’ll be big enough to decide where I want to go, with no adults telling me where I should stay.” I try to say it politely.

“Well, I think you will like it here.” She smiles.

“Ivory, dinner is ready. Please come down, you as well Emily.” Mrs Emerson calls from downstairs. I let out an enormous sigh before Ivory took my hand to go downstairs.

The table is set with silver cutlery and a delicious supper. Mr Emerson kissed Mrs Emerson on the cheek, thanking her for the food. On the left side of the table sits another girl, whom I presume is their older daughter. She looks annoyed and angry. I guess she didn’t want another pretend sister. Don’t worry about me, I don't intend to stay here for long., I silently said to myself.

“Emily, this is Jocelyn. Jocelyn, this is Emily.” Mrs Emerson introduces. Jocelyn gave me a fake smile and turn her attention back to the plate in front of her. Everyone is quiet except for Ivory, who goes on and on about how she wants to decorate her new room in pink and have unicorn stickers all over the place. Jocelyn rolled her eyes a few times and glared at me with hateful eyes.

I guess Mr and Mrs Emerson know how to handle a difficult child, well that’s what they think. They haven’t met me yet. Everyone

finishes

their dinner and Mrs Emerson removes all the plates from the table and placed it in the dishwasher. I still sit in my chair across from Jocelyn, neither one of us standing up to help.

“Okay, when the two of you are done

relaxing, you can watch some television

or do whatever you teenagers do.” Mrs Emerson said nervously. The rest of the family left the kitchen, leaving me and Jocelyn staring at each other.

“You don’t belong here.” Jocelyn rudely speaks out.

“Excuse me?”

“You heard me. I asked my parents over and over to not let you come, but they never listen to me.”

“I don’t know your history and why you are in foster care, but if you are here to stay, just know that I will make your entire four months a living hell until you decide to run away, got that?”

The little bitch taps her fingers on the table. She has no idea who she’s dealing with. By the end of the four months, she will beg me to leave on her knees. She throws her long black hair to the side before she left the kitchen.

“Ignore her.” a thick voice pulls me out of my murderous thoughts.

“She’s just pissed that Ivory had to give her room to you after she begged my parents for months to have Ivory’s room.” The tall, dark-skinned yet very attractive man said while pouring juice into a glass. I presume this must be Aiden.

I never actually met him in person. Some girls at school have wet fantasies about him, even some boys. I started laughing at the thought of that, but I have to admit he is a catch.

“What’s so  funny?” he asks, glaring at me with hungry yet passionate eyes.

“Nothing, I don’t scare easily. If you are worried, then you should warn your little sister to not mess with me, she not intimidating me. However, if she wants to see scary, I can always show her?”

“You don’t scare me?” he stepped closer, his face nearly touching mine, my heart rate picked up and I can nearly find words.

“My intentions are not to scare you, but I can change my anger towards you.”

“I’m sure you can. The difference between me and you, sweetheart, is that I can handle anger. Can you handle me?” he answered with a smirk on his face, leaning closer making me almost fell off the chair.

“I have to go unpack,” I said in a rush and run out of the kitchen. My heart was jumping like a fox that’s on steroids by the time I closed my bedroom door.

Okay, I always thought the girls at school were exaggerating and silly, but fuck, this man nearly made me pass out with all the anticipation I just felt.

Ever since my parents died, I never cared to get closed to anyone. I would sneak out to the shit sides of

New

York, have a joint and drink with some shitty people. When I no longer have control over my own thoughts and feelings, I would make out with a random guy and then return to whatever foster home I was living at the time.

I never imagined feeling like this. My entire face blushed and was full of emotions running through my fucked up mind. I locked the door and changed into sweatpants and a T-shirt before I went to bed. When I switch off the light, there were glowing stars against the ceiling.

I can see why Ivory was so upset to give up her room, yet she still handled it better than her shit face of a sister. I finally closed my eyes and drift off your sleep.
