Chapter 1: A Frightful Awakening

My body feels heavy. I go to shift sides like I always do, but I’m to weak to move. I should probably wake up, but thinking about the chores for the day makes me not want to. I wonder what time it is now. As I open my eyes I’m meet with a blinding light and quickly close them. After a moment I slowly open my eyes squinting letting myself adjust to the light.

Everything at first is blurry and like a haze. I see movement even though I can’t focus on it. Slight fear takes over. I live alone, there shouldn’t be anyone else here. Calm down girl, it’s probably just my mother. She does have keys to my house, yes that’s it, it’s probably just her. I hear mumbling. Try as I might, but I only hear a slur of sounds.

A bright light suddenly flashed in my eyes causing me to quickly shut my eyes in pain. Tears welled up and dripped down the sides of my face. What was that? When the pain subsides I slowly open my eyes again. I can see everything clearly now. There isn’t a haze over my eyes, but I wish there was. The first thing I see is some sort of organic orb floating over my head shining a light down on me.

What is this? I’ve never seen something like this before. Fear again takes over, subconsciously I hold my breath as my whole body stiffens in response of my fear. If I wanted to scream I couldn’t, the fear took hold so heavy that I couldn’t even make a sound. All of a sudden two men came into view, they were speaking but I didn’t understand them. Who are they?

One of the men held up his hand and started wiggling his fingers. Out of no where these light blue lights began twisting and dancing around leaving trails like some laser light show. As the lights came closer I laid there cross-eyed looking at them, wondering what the crap, as the lights came towards my face.

When I realized these lights were not stopping but instead heading towards my nose; I was able to get a hold of my senses and instinctively tried to swat them away. However it took everything I had just to lift my arm. What is wrong with me? I then realized I was still holding my breath and started breathing again. I heard the men talking in a strange language and the blue lights vanished.

I have no idea what is going on or where I am. I have no energy to move. What happened to me? Why am I here? Who are these people? That strange orb started rotating above and began to glow all around. Having no idea what it is I focus on it. Before I can even think, what looked like spider legs shot out of it and attached itself to different area’s of my body.

I was terrified and unable to make sense of anything. My ankles, wrists, waist, and head were pinned down by this thing. I was already barely able to move and weak, now there was no way I could even move a fraction of an inch. I must be dreaming, none of this can be real. Images of arachnophobia flooded my mind as I laid helpless watching two spider leg looking things slowly reach towards either side of my head.

My heart rate must be going 90 miles an hour as I laid there pinned down. This terrifying thing was pinching my temples. All of a sudden a sharp pain hit either side of my head as I gasped for air I couldn’t make a sound. Am I going to die? Is this thing going to suck the life out of me? Is a mouth full of fangs going to pop up out of nowhere like those spider legs and tear me apart limb from limb? As my mind began racing a million miles an hour thinking of all the different ways I’m going to die... I give up.

No more thoughts. My head has gone numb, I no longer feel that sharp pain. If I am to die I don’t want to see it. Just get it over with. I decide to close my eyes.

Once I closed my eyes at first everything was black, but then I saw a small light. That small light turned into two, then three. Before I knew it there were hundreds if not thousands of small lights in a rainbow of colors. They all began etching strange figures and shapes everywhere. At first I didn’t understand, but soon they started making sense. It was like they were teaching me a language I didn’t know, but now I know. I can’t explain it, but I understood it.

My senses start coming around. Am I still alive? I’m still laying down with my eyes closed. I’m afraid to open my eyes for the fear of seeing that thing again. Can I move? I try rolling over onto my side and am surprised at how easy it was. I no longer feel weak or sluggish, but to test it I move again curling into a ball. I need to open my eyes but I’m afraid to.

Something bumps into me causing me to put my hand down to brace myself but I’m instantly confused as to what I feel under my hand. Feeling this reminds me of dry thick grass, almost straw like, and muster the courage to open my eyes. Sure enough its straw, then I notice a woman laying down asleep next to me. Sitting up I see a lot of women laying down sleeping in this straw. I look down and notice I’m wearing a loose fitted dress? Seems to be some sort of natural linen and when looking around at the other women they are wearing the same thing.

When I look behind myself I see another woman who is awfully close. I guess that’s who bumped into me. That woman moans and flips over kicking her leg out onto another woman next to her. Yep, it was her alright. It’s dim but I begin looking around trying to make heads or tales of what’s going on. There is a small barred window at the top of one of the walls, so small I don’t even think I could fit my head through it. As I turn my head my eyes widen. Bars… Was I in a cell?
