Chapter 5

Avatia's POV

The silence was deafening. We've been in this car for about 15 minutes and I couldn't take it anymore. "Where are we heading to?"

Roberto looked at me for a split second before diverting all his attention to the road. We were heading downtown but I needed to know exactly where he was taking me too.

" 'Berto?"

"Downtown. " I could hear the 'duh' tone which caused me to roll my eyes. The only thing I'm good at.

"I know. Where exactly?" I didn't fail to emphasize my own 'duh'

"Like I told you, I'm not kidnapping you. No need to be scared. " he answered like it was the most obvious thing.

This guy. I just shut up and looked out at the amazing buildings of New York. I mean, back at Ohio we've got great buildings too but New York, its the bomb. The car pulled to a stop and my mouth hung open as I took in the sight in front of me. This has to be the most beautiful house I've ever seen. The hotel-like building was spectacular. Adam owns all this?

"Little one, we should go in, you know, meet the boss? " Roberto said, more like asked, causing me to snap out of my thoughts. Who ever owns this house, no doubt, is a filthy billionaire. We walked up the stairs, passing a very beautiful and large pool. Roberto entered a code on a pad I never noticed and the door automatically opened.

"Wowwwww" I exclaimed like a 4 year old who went to Disney land for her first time.

Roberto had this amused look on his face as he shook his head softly. "You know, you really look like a baby but I expected a more mature character behind the looks. Now I know you really are a little one."

I walked to the floor length window and admired the view of the environment. That reminds me. "So what's my job here. This isn't an office and this house is---"

"Can you cook?" He asked.

I shook my head a little. "I can try."

"Wrong answer. Its supposed to be a yes or no. How can you work in an office if you can't answer a simple question. " Roberto was talking as he typed something on his phone.

I had more time to look at him. He's a hunk. No shaking on that. He smirked as he noticed me staring and cocked his eyebrows waiting for an answer. "Hey! Don't underestimate me. I can type and I know a lot about marketing and management. I took a course in business management and now, when I enroll in NYU, I'm gonna major in it. There! Anyways, Adam wouldn't stress me up." I pointed out and smiled at my victory. "One point for me. Zero for you"

He just smiled and continued with what he was doing.

"Where's this boss? We've been here for a good-----"

"8 minutes, 31 seconds?" I heard the unmistakable Italian accent from the staircase. I was so scared to face Mr. Black. Its him. I know it's him. "Roberto, excuse us. "

My goodness, Roberto tricked me. This wasn't Adam's house. I'll deal with him later for lying to me. From where I stood, I couldn't see him exit. I only heard the sound of the door opening and closing. Mr. Black cleared his throat and I took that as my cue to face him. I slowly turned around and my breathing stopped. Mr. Black seemed to get hotter and handsome every second. His silver eyes, the most beautiful shade to look at and the black tee he wore did no mercy in hiding his abs and muscles. If Draya were here, she'd be drooling. Well, I am too, but on the inside. Going back up, his jet black hair looked so soft. Oh my goodness, where did I take the courage to openly stare at a man? I am so getting spoilt. Mom's not going to be happy if she found out. "Are you done staring, princess?" He asked smugly.

I know I'm as red as a strawberry. I blush so hard. I looked down, too embarrassed to look at him. "So you're the boss? I'm already tired of seeing you. You made me loose my job and want to give me one again? Unbelievable!" I scoffed.

"Just so you know, I'm not giving you a job because I feel pity for you loosing your job or anything." And there he goes again in spoiling my already bad mood.

I looked up at him and his intense stare made me look at my feet again. Not talking because I literally feared this man. He was so scary. I gulped and looked back at him. "Then why do you want to give me a job? I don't need a job from a horrible person like you."

"I'm giving you a job to free your little mind about lying to your mom. And renew those hidden potentials of yours that died along with your dad." He answered without a care in the world. I caught him checking me out . Thank goodness I'm well dressed.

I almost fainted from shock. "How'd you know that? Mr. Black are you stalking me? "

"Mr. Black? Is that what you call me?" The rude Italian asked, making me realize this was the first time I openly called him like that. "Huh?" He asked with a raised eyebrow.

I nodded. Well, if I lied to mom and he knew, he'd definitely see through if I lied to him. Plus the name matched his shitty personality so there was no need hiding it. Him bringing my late dad into this was not helping either but I won't let him know that's an emotional topic for me. "But just so you know, I'm not working for you. You can't make me loose my job and expect me to work for you. With billions of people in the world. You? Never." I said and was about to walk away but stopped at his words.

"You leave, and you remain jobless for life. Believe me, I can do that princess. "

I turned and walked up to him. He was way taller than I am. Insanely tall. Its goes perfectly with his physique though. I poked his rock hard chest as hard as I could. "You can't do that. I'd sue you."

He let out a bored laugh. "Its an advice, princess, work for me. "

I wasn't going to accept but something about that princess he called me just made my insides melt. "Why do you even want me to work for you? You don't know me and I sure as hell despise you with the little I know about you. What do I even have to do for you? You told me you have everything right? So what do I have to do for you?"

"Paint. I know you love painting so much but you've not done it for a while. I'm giving you a chance to do it again." He answered. He knew me so well, it was scary. How did he know such personal information? The last time I painted was with daddy. I really didn't know how to hide my emotions. However, I couldn't get mad at him for bringing back old memories. On the contrary, I should be grateful for him giving me a chance. But how does he know about this?

"I just know you love it." He answered my unasked question. "You start tomorrow. I'd pay you well princess, don't let that part stress you out. You get to have free breakfast and lunch and a cool environment. All you have to do is paint. Paint your beautiful heart out. Bring back that dead talent to life. "

I really didn't know what to say in this situation. "And what if I do not want to work for you? I don't care about your stupid breakfast or lunch. I can feed myself. I don't want to work for you, do you get it?" I asked him, looking him straight in the eye.

He shrugged. "Then you leave me no choice but to destroy your chances of going to business school and getting a job anywhere in this city."

I gasped. How does he know everything about me? "You monster!" I glared at him, knowing I was trapped.

He smirked. "I thought as much. You have no choice. You start work tomorrow." He said and turned, walking away.

I stood there thinking about how I got myself into this mess. Why did I even get into the damn car earlier?

Roberto walked back in and smiled. "I'm sorry for lying to you earlier. I had no choice. But I see you got yourself a deal with the boss. It may be hard at first but when you see your first paycheck, you'll want to continue working for him. And I know what you're thinking. You better come tomorrow, Kim. Or you wouldn't like the end of it. Just an advice." He said.

I rolled my eyes. "Whatever." I said and walked out, ignoring his offer to drive me back home. He's a liar. I needed my time and space to think about this messy situation.

It was really difficult to get a cab here. The environment screamed wealth and money. I walked a bit before hailing a cab to Adam's.

********

"Really? I can't believe he did that. Damn..... I wish I was the one who almost got knocked down by him." Draya was practically screaming in the break room as I spilled the beans to her. "He even checked you out." She screamed the last part.

"Draya calm down, okay? I'm not one hundred percent sure he was checking me out since there was no sign of approval or disapproval on his face. Just his normal always grumpy but handsome face. Look Dray, we can't tell my mom, I don't want her to think I have to stay at home and go to college like I did in Ohio. I want to have my own apartment and I want to work for it. Its our little secret." I told her. Not that she was gonna tell on me to my mom but its better safe than sorry.

She looked at me then opened her hands for a hug. I hesitantly leaned in knowing its was gonna be a bone crushing hug. "I love you and I dont want to scare you, but be careful sweetheart, Mr. Vaughn is dangerous. Far more dangerous than he looks."

I thought about it but it didn't stand straight, he did not look that dangerous to me. Just scary. Some what lost and broken? I guess I'd find out when I start working.
