Two Hundred-Forty-Nine

I keep my eyes closed as I smile and stretch, but something seems missing and as I slide my hand next to me, I realise that the bed is empty. I snap my eyes open and sit up; I look over at Zachariah’s side of the bed, but he is not there. I then start to panic a little as I look around the room and still don’t see him.

I move to the side of the bed and look around again as my panic builds when I still don’t see any sign of him; I get to my feet but freeze on my way to the closet, wanting to check to see if his travel bag was still inside. I turn to the bathroom instead and let out the breath I am holding as I hear the shower running.

I open the door and step inside to hear him chuckling as he says,

“You thought I left, didn’t you?”

“Um… Maybe…”

He chuckles again as he steps out of the shower, wraps his arm around my waist and then steps back into the shower, taking me under the water with him. He pulls me in tight up against him and places a kiss on my lips before pulling back and say
