Chapter 10

N O E L L E

Levi looks around the area and then looks at me in confusion. I rejected his offer to treat me to a meal, but he still followed me here.

“The hospital cafeteria looks classy. It’s like we are in a hotel.” He commented. I eat my food in silence as he talks. “They are serving delectable foods too.”

“You better check all the areas in the hospital, Mr. CEO. You look like a lost kid.” I suggested. “You, of all people, should know everything in the hospital. Instead of wasting your time on me, why don’t you start familiarizing yourself with the process of the hospital?” I lectured him, and he looked amazed. “What?”

“You have matured a lot. The Noelle I know several years back would laugh and tease me for not doing my job properly.” He said as he chuckled.

“I am acting to my age, sir. You are four years older than me, yet you act like a stubborn child.” I said while shaking my head.

“I am acting this way because it’s the only way I know to take you back. I know I have done so much to hurt you, but I am asking for one last chance, Noelle.” His facial expression suddenly became solemn. “I am surprised you are talking to me casually.”

“I realized that getting mad every time I see you are not healthy. I should learn to co-exist with you since you are our boss, and I have already moved on.” I said frankly. “If your relationship with Vanessa did not work, that’s why you are here to marry me. Why don’t you look for a bride somewhere else?”

“Your words stings, my ex-fiancée.” He said as he smirked.

“It’s right. I’m your ex-fiancée. I’m glad you stop calling me fiancée.”

“I believe not getting into your nerve is the best way to approach you. Besides, I have already confirmed that the contract has been terminated. However, it won’t stop me from claiming you as mine again.” Wow. Should I be flattered or feel insulted?

After the lunch break, I quickly started making rounds with the patients waiting for their scheduled surgery and patients recovering from their surgeries. Unbelievably, the CEO is still following me wherever I go. The doctors and nurses are looking at him in admiration.

“Please focus on your work, ladies, and gentlemen. Don’t mind the presence of the CEO. He’s just playing around.” I declared, and they all gasped in my last sentence. Levi just shook his head while smiling like an idiot.

The next day, the same thing happened again. The CEO follows me wherever I go, and he looks amazed at what I do.

“I can see that the CEO has a lot of time in his hands,” I commented after the last patient stepped out of the room. I was doing checkups and diagnoses.

“Money and work are not the reason why I bought this hospital. It was you, Noelle. I’m the CEO, so I can do whatever I want.” He said as he smirked. I shake my head in annoyance. Our hospital is doomed. We have the worst CEO.

I was collecting my things when my phone suddenly rang. I smiled as I read the name of the caller. I tapped the answer button as I stepped out of the room. “Hi honey, how are you?” I asked him.

“I’m excited for tomorrow!” He chirped, and I laughed at his cute voice.

“I’m excited too, honey.” My heart warms every time I think of him. I love him so much.

He also mentioned his classmates and their school activities. He asked me to bring his favorite food, and I happily replied while giggling.

He hanged up when I reached my office, and I was startled when Levi spoke. “What the hell are you doing here?” I asked.

I did not even notice him. “Were you following me from the clinic until here?” I asked as I felt my heart beating abnormally in anticipation. Did he hear who I was talking with?

“You were lost in your own world that you suddenly forgot about me.” He said as anger skated all over his face, and I gulped in nervousness. “I’m aware that Maxwell loves you, but I never imagined that he would take you from me.” His hands formed into a balled fist.

“He did not take me away from you. You pushed me away, and he was there to catch me.” I said with greeted teeth, trying to hide my fear.

He shakes his head in distaste. “As long as you are not married to him yet, I still got a chance. I won’t lose to him.” He furiously said before storming out of my office, and I breathed out to release the tension in my chest.

He thought I was talking to Maxwell. Good thing he did not hear Noah’s voice. I drink a glass of water to calm myself down. I felt like my heart was going to burst in so much tension.

I can’t let him know about Noah yet. I know he will find out soon, but it’s not the right time.

The weekend came, and nothing stopped us from going home. It was still dawn when we reached our house, and I excitedly jumped out of the car to run. “Be careful!” Maxwell yelled, and I chuckled.

“Mommy!” Noah’s voice echoed inside the house, and I hugged him tightly. “I missed you!” He exclaimed.

“I miss you more, hon. How’s my baby?” I said before showering him with kisses. He was chuckling as I planted kisses on his cheeks.

“I’m doing fine with granny.” He said before planting a kiss on my cheek. He’s such a sweet baby boy.

“I can see that. I think you grew a few centimeters.” I complimented him as he looked at the door. His smile widened as Maxwell came in.

“Daddy!” He shouted as he ran, and Maxwell caught him.

“I missed you, buddy!” Maxwell said, and my heart warms at this lovely view. My son hugging Maxwell is the best view I could ever have.

“I missed you too, dad! Let’s play!” He excitedly shouted as he ran to his room.

I shook my head as I smiled at Maxwell. “You better stop spoiling him, Max,” I warned him. He chuckled as he shrugged his shoulders.

“You guys are early.” Mom, Maxwell’s mom, said while smiling. She took the responsibility of taking care of Noah while we were working at the hospital.

I hugged her. “Thank you for taking care of Noah, mom. I missed you.” I said.

She tapped my shoulder as she chuckled. “Noah is my happiness. I can’t leave without my grandson.” She said, and I chuckled.

“Can I have a big hug for your handsome son?” Maxwell spreads his arms and hugs his mom.

“You’re too old for a big hug, Doctor Hughes.” She said jokingly, but she hugged him back while laughing.

“I’m still your son, Mrs. Hughes. I missed you.” He said, and all I could do was watch them with teary eyes. I miss my mom too. I hope my mom can meet Noah. I hope she can see us from wherever she is.

“Daddy, let’s go! Let’s play soccer!” Noah pulled his dad out of the house to play his favorite sport.

I put our things in our room before helping mom cook our breakfast.

“Noelle, I have something to tell you.” Mom said, and I suddenly felt nervous.
