Aliya

I have been on the run now for a week and I have just made it to the human city right outside of the Midnight Forest Packs borders.  I had made it halfway between our border and the packhouse when dad and Alpha Craig stopped me.  Dad said I needed to turn around and run.  Alpha Craigh explained that the pack was under attack and that they needed me to run now.  I tried to tell them that I could fight but they told me to go.  I finally relented and took off.  I started crying and didn’t even stop when I heard dad let out his last howl.  My wolf Haven let out a loud howl inside my head as I fell to my knees.  She told me I needed to get up and I knew she was right but fuck it hurt to know that my dad and pack were being wiped out and I wasn’t there trying to fight for them.  The only saving grace I was thankful for was I knew that Luke and Carter were away and alive.  I have managed to lose the rogues.  I don’t think they are really rogues because I swear I caught two scents that I recognized.

“Shit” I mumble to myself.

I hadn’t even realized that I had made my way through the city and crossed into the pack's borders until I heard the growling.  I am standing here staring at two huge wolves.  One is reddish-brown with blond tips and golden-brown eyes and the other is dark grey with matching eyes.  The growling has stopped but they aren’t backing down.  I am sure they think I am a rogue.  I do recognize their smell.  They are part of the Midnight Forest Pack.  I debate about telling them who I am when I hear another howl.  This one sounds like a wolf with authority, probably the alpha.  Right then and there I made the split decision to run.  I take off quickly towards the sound of running water.  I can hear them running after me.  I know that I am fast.  The plus side of being a hybrid.  Angels, fae and wolves are all fast runners and have quick reflexes so I know they are having a hard time keeping up with me.  I do hear one set of paws that is keeping pace with me and I am impressed.  I finally make it to where I was headed.  There in front of me is a large lake.  I scan the area quickly and find a nice hiding spot.  I make sure to cover my scent after I crawl into the hole.

“Where is she?” I hear a guy say.

“The alpha is going to kill us since we lost her.”  Another guy whines.

I can hear three more sets of footsteps walking up and soon I hear the sounds of bones breaking.  I flinch, that sound still makes me cringe.  I am guessing the three new people just shifted.  I catch a whiff of two scents I know well but they shouldn’t be here.

“I told you two to just watch her and keep her from running off.”  A deep voice says.

I shudder when I hear it.  This voice is making butterflies go off in my stomach.  I don’t understand what is going on until I catch that scent.  I haven’t smelled that scent in almost two years.  It smells like a eucalyptus forest after a fresh rainstorm.  The last time I caught that scent was just after I turned 18.  I knew it belonged to my mate as I had accidentally brushed my hand against his trying to make it back to my room before I ran into him.

“She had better still be here or you two are in deep shit.”  The same guy adds.

“She’s here.”  A new voice states.

I know that voice.  It belongs to Carter. I take a deep breath and I can smell his sandalwood and peach scent.  I also smell Luke’s vanilla and leather scent.  Mom’s whole family smelled of vanilla.  I asked her why once and she said that each family had a unique scent just to them and that vanilla was our family's scent.  I scoot out of my hole and peek around the rock to see who is all here.  I spot Luke and Carter standing there looking around for me. I see two other guys that look alike and I am guessing they are related somehow.  These must have been the two that I ran into at the start.  I look around more until my eyes land on him.  Damn, I thought Carter and Luke were tall this guy has at least two or three inches on both of them.  That makes him around 6’9” with long shaggy sun-bleached hair that has a slight curl to it and the most hypnotic bright aquamarine blue eyes I have ever seen.  He’s huge with shoulders as wide as he is tall.  I think his arms are as big around as my waist.  I sink back down fast when his head turns my way.

“Pinkie I know you are here.  You can come out.”  Luke states.

“Fuck off and stop calling me pinkie,”  I yell.

I hear Carter snicker and I want to slap him upside his head.  These two annoy the fuck out of me.  I am just about to tell Carter to shove something up his ass when I am grabbed from behind and sparks travel all over my body.  I let out a scream as I am lifted up and I look down to see the ground is very far from me.

“Found you.”  He whispers in my ear.

A shiver runs through my body as I am carried over to them and set down.  I kick Carter in the leg and he lets out a yelp.  I see the other two start to laugh and level them with a glare.  They shut up quickly.  Luke pulls me into his arms and I think he is trying to smother me.  I struggle to get out of his grasp but it is no use.

“Let me go,”  I say.

He finally lets me go and we all just stand there staring at each other.  Luke asked why I ran.  Seriously I had two huge wolves standing in front of me, one that was growling and he asked why I ran.  Not to mention another one was howling in the distance.

“These two were standing in front of me staring me down.  I am sure they thought I was a rogue and were contemplating on what they should do with me.”  I retort.

“We knew you weren’t a rogue.  We were just waiting for our alpha to get there.  We recognized your scent as being from the Northern Celestial Pack.”  Guy number one says.

“Ok fair enough.  Umm, what are your names so I can stop calling you guy number one and guy number two in my head.”  I asked.

I hear the other three standing there laughing at this.  The other two let out huffs that sound as if they was offended but when I look at them I can see that they have smiles on their faces.

“I am Dalton and this is my younger brother Alton,”  Dalton says.

“Seriously Dalton and Alton,”  I remark.

“Mother likes to rhyme,”  Alton explained.

“I guess it could have been worse.”  I point out.

I hear someone clear their throat and turn around to be met with mister sexy.  I am not going to tell him that I have nicknamed him this in my head.  He is an alpha and already cocky enough.  I give Luke a look and he shrugs his shoulders.

“Sorry sis, this is our friend Alpha Brayden.”  Luke states.

Oh shit, this is Brayden.  Damn the last time I saw him he was still going through puberty and hadn’t gotten his wolf yet.  Well, I can tell you that puberty and getting his wolf has done him damn well.  I look at him and see that he has a smirk on his face.  Fuck he caught me checking him out.  I quickly look away.  I realize that he is my mate and now I have a problem but I push it to the back of my mind.  I start to ask Luke and Carter about what happened to the pack but Luke says that this discussion should take place back at the packhouse.  I can tell by both his and Carter’s body language that whatever they have to tell me is not going to be good.  I walk between my brother and Carter as we make out way back to the packhouse and the pack.  I am not sure I am ready to have this conversation but I also know that it can’t be avoided.
