Chapter Four

Ashira’s POV

“Bye, Mom! I will be back after a week!” my son cheered as he waves at us.

I waved back, my lips trembling as I try to smile.

Seth was on his wolf form and Quillon was riding on his back with a backpack. Aiden assigned five fighters for protection and five trackers for the mission Seth needed to do.

I watched them galloping away and the moment they are far, Aiden’s arms quickly snaked on my waist, pulling me closer.

Clearing my throat, I moved away from him and headed to the house. Aiden sighed behind me as he follows.

“Ashira.” he calls, I did not turned to look at him. “There is no point to stay mad.”

I hissed. I know! And its more maddening that it is!

Walking with heavy feet, I went to the kitchen and try to make myself busy by cleaning the dishes we used for breakfast. Aiden still followed me, keeping a safe distance, he stands on the kitchen doorway.

I sighed.

“Ash…” he called softly.

“You should go to the Hall.” I said, my voice ice-cold.

He groaned but I did not look at him to look what’s his reaction is.

“Can we--”

“It’s already late, Nick must be working ahead.” I cut him off, still busying myself with cleaning up.

“Ashira. Let’s talk--”

“I just can’t understand, Aiden!” I said after cleaning a few plates, my voice rises and I can feel my chest is about to burst because of my raging thoughts!

“Our son is in danger! It’s not a good thing to let him out without us by his side, yet you let him go when you know we could not accompany him with our protection!”

This week will be hectic! We can’t leave the pack premises. Prime pack will soon renew the peace treaty with Regal pack, my former pack and to Trivian pack on the same week.

His eyes softened as he took a step closer to me. I growled lowly.

“No! Stay there! I don’t want you touching me! It was because of your heat that you risk our son to be in danger!”

His feet stopped abruptly and his eyes narrowed from what I said. It was too late when I realized my words.

His lip arched in a sarcastic smirk and the tip of his tongue touched the inside of his upper lip. “Is that what you think of me now?”

His eyes are intense. I can’t put words in what his reaction is, of what my words made him feel.

“A selfish wolf in heat?” he smirked

I cringed. Is that what I thought? I’m just concerned about Quillon, this is not what I meant at all but I can’t take my words back or speak at all.

“Let’s talk later.” he said and without any ado, he turned his back at me and left.

“Ai--” I did not finished calling out to him. I know I said something wrong, even if my reasons sounds good to me, it is not the right words to say. Maybe I need to cool down.

“Oh, first month and I can’t even bend to pick things up.” Ava complained.

I went out of the Ancestral to get some fresh air, clear my head a bit, and I decided to visit Ava and Seth’s house.

They moved out of Seth’s parents and decided to live closer to the city. And this spot is close to the ancestral, almost in the woods.

I touched her belly, amazed of how big it is.

“It’s a twin, after all!” I chuckled.

Seth and Ava is expecting a twin. Ava is on her first month of pregnancy. Unlike the stealer me in the past, she will labor normally after two more months, but since its a twin, her belly is so big and round already!

Ava grinned at me. I can see the excitement in her eyes.

“How about you, Ash? Will Quillon expecting a sibling soon?” she asked with a smile.

I bit my lip. “I hope so. My son is really looking forward for a sister though we know that Alpha usually produce one pup. There’s a low chance to have more.”

“Oh, yes. Well, we can’t tell fate. Alpha Jacob has a brother though.”

“Yeah, maybe we will be lucky to have one more. Quillon is growing up too fast and he loves the adventure. If I’ll be blessed with another pup, I hope its a girl.” I chuckled and Ava joined me.

Also, because of what happened today, I want a girl to stand by my side since Aiden and my son is pretty much teaming up against me.

Ava looked at me with a look that says ‘I-know-you-have-something-in-mind.’

“What?” I chuckled, trying to hide my troubled thoughts.

“I’m guessing you are not here just because Quillon is away.” she grinned. “Had a fight with Alpha Aiden?”

Ava and I become closer since Quillon was born. She helped me a lot, taking care of my son, and on other girly things. I found a good friend in her and I won’t be surprised that she can read my thoughts in such a short time.

Sighing, I nodded. “A little.” then I gave her a weak smile.

“Oh, Ash. Is this about Quillon again?”

Biting my lip, I nodded. “I just can’t take the fear out of my chest, Ava.”

“I will be a mother soon, and I understand you. But we got the Paraiba gem, Quillon’s power had been concealed successfully.”

“Of course, I know that but what if someone sees him using his power? Someone from the High Council? What if the Alpha King found out about my son? That he failed to--”

“Shh. Ash, calm down. I understand you. I guess its normal to think that way, so what did you and Aiden fought about?”

I sighed. Suddenly, the thought of Aiden’s face this morning still haunts me. I know I said something wrong but I still… justify the way I reacted.

“I got angry that he let our son go without us. I know Seth will protect him but I’m dying with fear everyday, let alone being away from him for a week. Then I kind of think he let Quillon go so he can spend, uh, more quality time with me. And I told Aiden that.”

“Uh-oh.” Ava hissed as if pained.

“That bad, huh?” I grimaced.

“Well, maybe Alpha Aiden did want more time with you but he won’t let Quillon go just because of that, Ash.”

I sighed. “I don’t know. I kind of just think that was his reason. I mean, it is risky to even let Quillon out of the house, more so to travel miles away.”

Ava looked at me with pursed lips, I think she’s thinking about it hard.

“Okay, let me be neutral here, okay?”

I sighed and nodded. “Just what I needed.”

“Okay. So, I understand you. As a mother, it is normal to be concerned, to be protective. Alpha Aiden also thinks the same but his way of showing it is different than yours. And that was fine, its better that both of you does not have the same parenting techniques.”

I listened well, trying to understand and absorb the things Ava is saying. So I stayed silent and let her have the stage.

“I think Alpha Aiden trusts Quillon. We know how he does ever since your boy was born, and he also wanted him to live normally so he let him go. I know you think the same, but your motherly instincts might end up to be your son’s imprisonment and Alpha Aiden just don’t want to go there. It’s for you, too.”

“Maybe the both of you needed to talk. Treat this as a time to talk about your differences and thoughts about your son, his safety, what both of your needs, too. You know, you are not just a mother now. You’re also the Luna of this pack, the Luna of Alpha Aiden. And as heavy the responsibilities might seem, Alpha Aiden carries the same.”

I know I love Aiden, and its not about the bond anymore. I feel like Ava’s words made me travel back to the past where I’m not yet a mother of Quillon and yes, she is right.

Thinking back to how Aiden asks for more time, for more attention, maybe I lacked of that at some point.

I become too engrossed with taking care of my son that I somehow made it my sole task. It is not healthy, if I tightened my hold to Quillon at this early age, he might be rebellious. And I don’t want to deprive him of a life that he desires to have.

From the fear of losing my son, I become an overly protective mother that I got blinded of the possibilities that I may be turning to be a bad one.

**

After my motherly talk with Ava, I went to the Hall with hopes to talk to Aiden.

“Cress, please go home now. I miss you.” I heard Nick says over the phone. His back was facing the door of Aiden’s office so he probably didn’t saw me coming.

I frowned upon what he said. Did his mate left?

Cressia, the rogue who brought the Paraiba Tourmaline gem, is Nick’s mate. She was fierce, like a fire, she is too independent and well, you know Nick. He is under her command, every time.

They look cute together. A whining Nick, and a serious Cressia. I love watching them in person when all of us are in leisure time.

I decided to knock a little, taking Nick’s attention.

“Oh, Ash!--”

“I’ll be quick. I’m looking for Aiden?”

His eyes squinted to me. “He went home early today, I think something is bugging him but… you guys had a fight?”

I bed he wanted to be nosy and I wanted to ask him how Aiden was today but since Cressia was still on the line, I decided to excuse myself.

“Well, talk to you some other time?” I said, gesturing to him the phone. I think he forgot he was talking with Cress.

“Oh! Yeah, sure! He went home early.”

I nodded and turned around as he went back to his phone. Biting my lip, I thought of things that Aiden must be thinking right now.

Is he angry? I think he is, from the way he looked at me earlier today. I’m… nervous. I don’t think I can talk to him without stuttering from how loud my heart was drumming inside my chest.

Tsk.

There’s only way to find out what he thinks, and I should go home now.
