The moment they are in the cafe I immediately regretted my idea of having Athena in the same vicinity as them. I don’t trust Archer, but Leon said that it is best to have peace with every pack.
Archer eyed Athena and smiled mischievously.
“Now who do we have here?” he asked with a snicker.
I could sense Athena’s anxiety, I placed my hand on her knee which seemed to calm her down.
“My girlfriend,” I said. “Athena, I want you to meet Archer, a business partner.”
“Athena,” She said as she offered her hand.
Archer looked at her hand and laughed. I tried to keep my cool as Athena withdrew her hand in embarrassment. Archer’s reactions anger me and I just want to rip him into pieces.
“Sorry,” Archer said as he stopped laughing.
“Nothing against you, ma’am,” he said to Athena.
“I never thought I would see the day for the great Drake to stoop so low,” he snickered.
I felt Athena’s anger as she balls her hand trying to control her anger. I looked at her face and I couldn't see the anger showing. She looked so angelic that the angels might mistake her as one of theirs.
I laughed.
“Is there something funny?” Archer asks without hiding the annoyance from his voice.
“Nothing,” I said as I once again reached out from under the table to hold Athena’s hand to calm her. I find it amusing whenever I get a reaction from her each time I make contact.
I looked straight into Archer’s eyes and said, “I am still great, Archer, and my girlfriend here is the reason why I am even greater than ever before.”
“Isn’t that the reason you are here?” I asked him mockingly.
The smile on his face disappears, as he remembers the point of this meeting.
“I don’t see Leon,” he said as his eyes traveled to each corner of the cafe.
“He is on his way here,” I said.
Just then my phone vibrates, I pull it out and see Leon calling.
“Just a minute,” I said to Archer.“Get out of there Drake!” Leon said. I can sense the urgency and panic in his voice.
“It’s a trap,” he added.
“They wanted to kill you so they could take our pack and territory.”
“I got it,” I said and hung up not waiting for him to reply.
There are times when I hated to have lost my wolf. There were times when I hated being stuck in this wheelchair. It just sucks when my most hated times happen at the same time. I looked at Athena, and I hated myself for having her stay here. I made her stay because I thought that it would stop them from transforming into their wolf form. Little did I know that no matter, if there was a human, involved they have no plans of keeping anyone alive.
If I was to die today, I would need to make sure that she stays alive.
I looked at her and said, “Baby, can you make some coffee for our guests?”
“Please use the most expensive coffee beans that we have, the one on the safe,” I added.
She looked at me blankly and I know that she is a bit confused. But I know that she got the message knowing that the panic room is part of the safety measures that every employee of mine needs to know. I also know that she is a smart girl.
She nodded and looked at Archer, “Would you want it hot, iced, or blended?” she asked.
Archer smiled and said, “I prefer it hot.”
She nodded and stood up.
My eyes followed her until I ensured that she was in the back office. I need to ensure that she is at least safe. It was nice to meet you, my sweet angel, thank you for making me happy even for just a while.
I turned my attention to Archer.
“I never thought that you would like a human Drake,” he said.
“Is that the result of losing your wolf?” he snickered.
“My wolf is still here Archer,” I replied.
“I don’t think you will love Levi when he’s out. Because the last thing I remember is that my wolf almost devoured you whole.”
“That’s never gonna happen, Drake,” he said laughing.“Because your wolf is never coming back.”
He stood up and the back door opened and his men came in.“What would you do now Alpha?” Archer asks laughing.
We are surrounded by 15 men, plus Archer. I felt Parker walking in front of me. I know how strong Parker is but we are outnumbered.
“Let’s make it fair, Drake,” Archer said. “I will not release my wolf and I will not have my men attack. I fight between men. Just you and me.”
Four of his men held Parker and two of his men pulled my wheelchair. I looked up at him powerless. I can shield my face but with this wheelchair that’s about the protection, I can do. But that doesn’t mean that I won’t fight back. My feet might not be able to move but I can still throw some mean punches at him.
Archer took the first blow, which I dodge and countered with a punch that hit his left cheek. He tried to throw one again and I moved my wheelchair making him fall on the floor. I could see the irritation on his face and sensed someone holding my wheelchair still. He threw another punch and I tried to shield my face. And then two of his men held my arms making me powerless. He started throwing punches one after another until I tasted the blood on my lips. I heard Parker growl trying to be released from the six men who are now trying to hold him down.
“This isn’t fun,” Archer said arrogantly.
“Where is the great Alpha Drake?” he asked with a laugh.
“I don’t see him now,” he added and his men laughed with him.
Archer bent down and whispered, “You may be a smart kid, but you are no Alpha.”
He took out a knife and looked at me menacingly.
“You don’t scare me,” I said.
“Oh really?” he said as he struck the knife on my knees. And I shouted in pain. I can't walk but all my senses are working fine. This is also one of the reasons why they have given me up as their Alpha.
“See,” Archer said, “You are useless.”
“Let me finish your pain,” Archer said. “Let me stop you from being an embarrassment from your pack.”
He walks towards me ready to aim the knife over my chest.
I never thought that this is how my life would end. But it was inevitable ever since my wolf disappeared. I was only kept alive and respected because of the protection I received from my pack and especially my Beta Leon.
I just wished that I would get to know more about the angel I have met earlier but I guess I was asking for too much.
I prepared myself and looked at Archer. I was not going to show him any fear on my face. I will not give him that.
Just as he was about to strike me. I heard a swoosh sound and the next thing I saw was him on the floor with blood and a knife on his back.
I heard several swoosh sounds, like how ninja knives were supposed to sound when they throw them at someone and one by one the Archer's men fell.
I looked behind the counter as I realized who was throwing them. I got a sinking feeling from the bottom of my stomach as Athena emerged from behind the counter and approached me.
I know from the moment he asked me to leave and go get the coffee from the safe, something bad was about to unfold. My manager taught me about the safe room; that if there was something bad to happen we needed to rush to his office and press the red button and the titanium doors would keep us safe until one of the company's security men came to open it for us. A security measure that I didn’t think was necessary for a coffee shop. I tried calling my manager but then I realized that my phone died because I forgot to charge it. Of all the times to forget to charge it, it just had to be today. I cursed myself silently for my forgetfulness. I tried the phone on my manager's desk but there was no dial tone. I was tempted to press the red button but I know that I am not heartless to just leave the owner of the shop and his driver alone. I berate myself one last time as I know that I will regret the decision I a
She saved me. I wanted to hold her more. I wanted to feel her heart beating. But I know that to save her I have to let her go, for now. I am so angry at myself, so angry at how useless I am. Parker was also in surgery for all the beatings he took from Archer’s men. “Drake,” Leon said as he shook me, taking me away from my thoughts. “What?’ I retorted. “Sorry,” I said apologetically. I know that none of this was his fault. It was mine. I wipe my face with my hand in frustration. “I’m sorry,” Leon said softly. I was glad that they arrived the moment that they did. Because if they didn’t, I don’t know what would have become of us. Unfortunately, Archer and some of his men had escaped. But that's the least of my worries for now. I am worried for the person who saved my life even when she had the chance to save her own. I turned and looked at him. “It’s not your fault,” I said. “It was mine, for being useless,” I added. “You know that’s not true,” He said. I wanted to beli
I could hear voices but the words were not clear. By the different tones that I am hearing, I know that it does not belong to only one person. I tried to open my eyes but ended up being blinded by the sunlight streaming through the window. I moved my right arm trying to shield my eyes from the sun’s glare, but the sudden movement made my whole body scream in pain, making my whole body freeze as my arm fell to my side. The room became quiet and I heard curtains being pulled and then I felt the comfort that its shade brought. I tried to open my eyes again to see who closed the curtains. But even with the shade, I didn’t realize how opening my eyes was such a struggle. I tried to open my eyes again and I had to blink several times because I couldn’t believe my eyes. There stood at the foot of my bed, three hands
I was just in the bathroom for a few minutes when I heard loud shouts and glasses breaking. When I went out I was surprised to see Athena holding Nori, who by the way was enjoying every bit of it, even with a broken glass pointed at his throat. It surprises me how she got the strength to do all that after all the wounds that her body took. I could’ve healed her if only Levi was here. Nori offered but I don’t want anyone’s wolf touching her. I’m sorry Athena, you could have healed already but I just can’t bear anyone else touching you, especially one of my friends. “She’s feisty,” Nori said with a big smile on his face as he looked at her. “I like her,” he added. “You like her?” Leon asked in disbelief. “Have you already forgotten that just a few minutes ago, sh
I opened my eyes and found myself in an expensive room and found my manager talking to a doctor. After seeing me awake, my manager said goodbye to the doctor and walked toward me. “How are you feeling?” he asked me filled with concern. “Tired,” I admitted. “What happened?” I asked. “I shouldn’t have told you to stay late,” my manager said apologetically. “The shop was robbed and you were attacked by the robber.” I was speechless, I know that I am not that irresponsible to leave the door unlocked. I tried to remember exactly what had happened but everything was a blur. I looked at my hand and saw a cut but not too de
The doctors were surprised at how fast I have healed. I requested to be released from the hospital since I was not seeing any point in staying there. But my manager came and explained that the owner wants me to stay there until the week of rest is up. He said the owner wants to ensure that I get the needed rest and that I am eating right before getting back to work. The week seems to move so slowly but I did get some time to rest and even went to physical therapy to ensure that my body was working perfectly. Once I was given the “fit to work clearance” I was in a hurry to get back to my dorm. My manager wanted to pick me up but I was already out and had called a taxi. Once I was at the dorm, I started to clean up my small room. It’s been a while since I was home and my laundry piled up as well as the
We hit the road by the crack of dawn. I was seated at the back which I didn't mind. I looked out of the window as I watched how darkness fades as the sun rises. I placed my earbuds on and let the music swallow the silence that surrounded me. I didn’t know that I fell asleep until Lisa woke me up when we reached our destination. Lately, I find myself feeling sleepy most of the time. And I noticed that it started after I was hospitalized. It’s like all the energy I had was sucked out of my body. I got out of the car just in time to see Lisa’s aunt rushing to greet us. She had the same olive skin as Lisa’s, while gray hair was tied in a neat bun on her head. She was smiling brightly as she gave each one of us a hug. “You girls must be hungry,” her aunt Connie said. “Let’s get inside and
I stood there unable to move and in shock with what I just witnessed. I tried and tried to understand to find an answer to my question, ‘How can a human become a wolf?’ But ended up with more and more questions than answers. One of the wolves who were on my side nudged me, making me move. Is this wolf a human too? A question I wanted to ask out loud but couldn’t. The other wolf on my side lowered itself, it was like it was asking me to climb on its back. I looked in the wolf’s eyes, unable to move. That’s when I felt someone pull me and help me climb the back of the wolf. I looked up at the person who pulled me and found Katie. Katie smiles a lot but this time she isn’t. Her face wa
