Prologue

“I can’t leave you. Come with us. If you stay, they will kill you.” Louve told her husband.

Drake held her face between his hands and looked at her sadly.

“They are after me and our child. I can’t risk losing you both because of me.” He told her holding her large swollen stomach.

Tears filled her eyes.

“How am I supposed to live without you?” She asked him, her voice cracking in the end.

“You have to. For the sake of our baby. If I had another way, I would definitely leave with you both but…we both know there isn’t.” He told her and touched her head with his, “I love you, my darling and I love you too, my child.” He touched her stomach.

“And we love you, babe.” She told him with tears now streaming down her face.

He kissed her desperately and for the last time because he started hearing the vampires coming towards them.

He broke the kiss and looked at her with fear.

“Run, my love, Run.” He told her and slowly walked away.

She clenched her teeth as he started to transform into his dragon form. She shape-shifted into her wolf form as well and turned her back on him.

“You will always be my first and last mate!” she told him with a heartbroken tone and ran away.

“As you will be mine.” He said in a low tone.

“There he is! Hurry the she-wolf is getting away!” he heard a vampire say.

He looked at him angrily and grabbed his body tightly in his large hand and bit his head off. He then threw his body and breathed fire on it.

“No one will touch my family as long as I breath!” he said angrily as more vampires started to appear.

“Well then I guess you will have to die. Not that I was going to let you live.” The vampire King told him with an evil smile.

He angrily breathed fire on every vampire in his sight but he had to stop soon feeling weak. He wasn’t a strong dragon because he didn’t have a specific element. He a neutral dragon which made him the most beautiful dragon and that also made his magic weak.

When he stopped breathing fire on them and look to see how much damage he did to them, he was shocked because they were all unharmed.

“Dragon capes. Made with dragon scales. My idea. You like it?” The vampire king mocked him.

“You monsters!” He told him.

“Don’t worry you’ll be joining your kind soon.” The vampire king told him and charged at him.

The other vampires followed their king and charged with him.

He fought them as long as he could but he was unable to fight for long. The vampires had bit him too many times. Their venom was lethal to dragons. He was slowly starting to feel it’s effect.

“Give it up, dragon. You’re no match for us. Make it easy for all of us. We are going to go after your family anyways.” The vampire king told him.

“You have a son of your own! Wouldn’t you protect him if his life was threatened?” Drake asked him.

The vampire king nodded.

“You are a good father but unfortunately that won’t save you. Don’t worry about your daughter. I’ll raise her until she is old enough to be my guinea pig.” He told him.

Drake got angry at his comments. The spiky scales on his back split apart and electricity started flowing through his body. The clouds started turning black and thunder started rolling.

The vampires king looked at him shocked. No dragon has ever controlled the weather. He knew what was coming next.

“FALL BACK!” He yelled at his fellow vampires.

Some overly confident vampire stayed like idiots while others fled.

Drake who had a murderous look on his face roared loudly. Lighting from the clouds stuck towards Drake and then flowed around him electrocuting and vaporising all the vampires on the ground. A few quickly grew their wings and flew into the sky.

Drake fell down losing the strength in his body because of the venom in his body. His eyesight started to blur. In his final moments he saw his wife’s face smiling at him before everything went quiet.

Louve felt her connection with her husband die. Tears started falling down her face uncontrollably as she kept running. She had no idea how long she had been running, but it was already dark. She had to stop because she felt the water break and started to feel contractions. She shifted back to her human form. She was completely naked. She forced herself to walk a little further but the contractions started getting worse and worse. She laid down beneath a tree and breathed deeply. She thought that she would have to give birth here.

She heard footsteps coming her way. She grabbed a stick that was near her to defend herself. She thought that it was a vampire.

A person with in a black cloak approached her.

“Don’t come near me!” Louve told the person loudly.

The person took off the hat to let her see her face. She was a beautiful woman with purple hair and eyes. She looked like she was in her mid-twenties. She didn’t smell like a vampire.

“You... you’re not a vampire.” Louve said lowering the stick.

“No, I’m a witch.” She told her, “My name is Olivia Wilder.”

Louve opened her mouth to speak but a strong contraction stopped her. She grinned her teeth to stop herself from screaming.

“You’re about to give birth.” Olivia said and came towards her. She took off her cloak and wrapped it around Louve’s naked body and said, “My hut is nearby. Come with me, it’s safer there.”

She nodded.

Olivia helped her up and took her to her hut. When they got there, she helped her lay down on her bed. Olivia then looked at her cervix to see how she was doing.

“Don’t start pushing yet. You’re 7 centimetres dilated and you need to be at 10 centimetres to start pushing the baby.” Olivia told her.

Louve nodded and went through another contraction.

Olivia went away and started preparing. She boiled water and sterilized the scissors and clamps. She then placed it near Louve’s body and got a few clean towels. She looked at her cervix it was fully dilated.

“Okay, you’re fully dilated. Now push with every contraction you feel.” Olivia told her.

She did as Olivia instructed her. Olivia kept encouraging her in every 5 minutes so she doesn’t stop pushing.

“One final push!” Olivia told her.

Louve gave her all at her final push with a yell. After a painful hour of pushing, her baby was finally out.

Olivia quickly cut the umbilical cord and clamped it as the baby cried.

“Congratulations, you gave birth to a baby girl.” Olivia told her and started cleaning her up.

When she finished cleaning the baby, she handed her to her mother.

Louve started crying seeing her daughter for the first time.

“She’s so beautiful. If only your father could see you.” Louve said.

“What happened to her father?” Olivia asked looking at her.

“He died protecting us.” She told her.

“I’m sorry for your loss.” Olivia told her, “You’re not done yet. You need to push the placenta out too.”

Louve nodded.

After they were done with the whole delivery process, both the baby and mother fell asleep from the exhaustion.

Olivia used a flotation spell on them and changed the bloody bedsheets quickly and then gently lowered them on the bed.

She then went on and made her portions. A few hours later she heard the baby crying. When she got to the room the cry went away. She saw Louve feeding her child.

She gave a small smile to Olivia who walked towards her.

“How did you know so much about delivering babies?” Louve asked her.

Olivia sat down beside her.

“It’s boring to just make spells and potions all the time. So, I spent some time with the humans and learned a few things.” She replied.

“I don’t have the words to thank you.” Louve told her and looked at her with gratitude.

“Don’t mention it.” Olivia told her, “I made an oath to help the everyone in need when I got my doctor degree.” She grinned and added, “You were lucky that I was coming back from the human world otherwise you would have to give birth in the woods.”

“Thank you so much.” Louve thanked her again.

Olivia shook her head with a smile saying ‘no problem.’

“Why were you in the woods?” Olivia asked out of curiosity.

She slowly told her everything and after she was done, she saw Olivia sigh sadly. An idea came to her mind.

“I need to ask you for one more favour.” Louve told her with a serious expression.

“What is it?” she asked her.

“I want to hid my baby from all the creatures. Vampires, wolves, everyone. I can’t be with her because the vampires are after us. I want you to cast the strongest spell on her that will conceal her true identity and powers and also…help find her a good human family. Can you do that?” she asked her.

Olivia got up and looked at her seriously.

“I know a spell but it will cost you some of your life years.” She told her.

“How many years?” Louve asked her.

“1000 years.” She told her.

Louve will only have a few more years to live after that but she nodded.

“I’ll do it.” She told her.

“I’ll start preparing then.” Olivia told her and went away.

When she was done preparing, she told Louve to stand up. She did as she was told. Olivia held her hand and tied a red thread around their hand. She started chanting a spell. The red thread slowly went off in flames and a few seconds later it was finished.

“Your 1000 years are now gone.” Olivia told her, “Take the baby and come with me.”

Louve held her baby and followed Olivia out. She stopped in the living room. Olivia took the baby from her and laid her on the floor where she had made a magic circle with chalk.

She told Louve to stay away from the circle and started chanting the cloaking spell on the baby. After five minutes the spell was completed.

Louve took one last look at her baby daughter and kissed her forehead. She then looked at Olivia.

“Find her a good human home for me.” She told her, “I have to leave now, otherwise all of us won’t be safe.”

“I promise I’ll get her a good couple to look after her. I wish you luck.” Olivia told her.

Louve nodded and transformed into her wolf form. She took one last look at her baby girl and ran away.

She was only a few miles away when she got ambushed by the vampires.

She tried to fight them off but they were too many of them. They all tackled her and held her down on the ground.

“Where’s the baby?” one vampire asked seeing that she was no longer carrying her child.

“She died. She didn’t make it.” Louve told them.

“Oh, really? Then where’s the body?” the vampire asked.

“Some where you’ll never her.” She told him.

He kicked her in the stomach.

“You think we were born yesterday? Take her to the King! He’ll deal with her!” the vampire told his troops.

‘Stay safe, my daughter.’ She said in her head as they dragged her away.

•••

Olivia flew on her broom with the baby girl tucked comfortably under her cloak. She had a couple in mind. She saw them when she was a doctor in the hospital and knew that they would take good care of her. She flew around for a while looking for their house.

After 2 hours she finally found it. She landed in front of the house lawn and laid the baby girl on the floor in front of the door.

“Good luck, little one.” She told her in a low tone and gave the baby her blessings.

She knocked on the door and flew away and looked at her from the sky.

A man came out and saw her. He quickly picked up the baby and took her inside.

Olivia smiled and flew away. Her work was done and she had kept her promise to the she-wolf. The rest was up to her fate.
