3. New worries

Everyone’s eyes were on Lillian. She felt nervous. She moved closer to Ryan’s ear.

“Are they going to eat me?” She whispered.

Ryan looked at her, amused, and licked the side of her face. He grinned.

‘Well, you do taste good.’

Karlie and Randall laughed secretly, apparently hearing his thoughts.

“Yuck… I’m going to bring a toothbrush and toothpaste tomorrow. Your mouth stinks.” She said and made a disgusted face.

This time Freya also laughed while her brother looked annoyed.

‘Looks like we have someone else to keep you annoyed.’ Freya grinned.

‘Are you asking for a fight?’ Ryan asked, annoyed.

‘No. I wouldn’t want your stinky breath on me.’ She snickered.

‘I am your Alpha.’ He warned.

‘But you are my stupid brother first.’ He told him and stuck her tongue out at him.

Ryan groaned, annoyed at his little sister.

“It’s getting late. I should go home.” Lillian said, looking at the sky slowly going dark, “But I don’t know the way out.”

‘Let’s drop her out of the forest. Her parents would come looking for her in the forest if she’s gone for too long.’ Randall said.

Ryan nodded. He sat down next to Lillian. He pointed his head to his back, gesturing her to sit on his back. Lillian looked at him, confused.

“Do you want me to pat your back?” she asked and patted his back.

‘My mate has such a low IQ.’ He was annoyed beyond words.

‘Aww… you wanted a pat on your back.’ Freya said in a teasing tone.

She moved towards him and patted his head with her paw.

‘You must’ve felt so lonely.’ She kept teasing him.

He tried to bite her paw, but she was fast enough to escape from his sharp teeth.

Lillian pulled his ear.

“Bad doggy. No fighting.” She scolded him.

The three wolves burst into laughter.

‘That’s it.’ He said and grabbed the back of Lillian’s cloth with his mouth and threw her up in the air. She screamed and landed on his back. As soon as she grabbed his fur, he took off. The three wolves follow him.

‘I think he’s pissed.’ Karlie said to Freya, blocking Randall and Ryan from her mind.

‘Of course he is. No one has ever scolded or grabbed his ear before. He’s always been treated as a king, as an alpha.’ Freya told her, also blocking the two wolves.

‘I think that Luna is going to get him angry more often.’ Karlie said a little nervously.

‘You bet.’ She snickered. ‘She’ll be an enormous change and a challenge to him.’

Freya then got serious.

‘But I’m more concerned about Shadow.’ Freya said.

‘Of course. Blake must’ve told him about the arrival of Luna.’ Karlie told her.

‘No doubt. Ryan didn’t have any weakness, but now he does. You know how protective our kind is about our other halves.’

‘Are you two also worried about the troubles Luna might bring to the pack?’ Randall asked, blocking Ryan out of his mind.

‘It doesn’t matter. A fight between the two packs is inevitable.’ Freya said.

‘But I wonder who he would save. The pack or Luna?’ Karlie asked.

The three went silent. The four wolves ran past the forest and in a few minutes, they were out of the forest.

Lillian got off of Ryan’s back, feeling a little uneasy. She was trying to keep her balance on the ground. When she was feeling okay, she patted Ryan’s head.

“Bye, bye doggy. I’ll see you tomorrow.” She then looked at the other three wolves, “Bye, red doggy, bye brown doggy, bye other white doggy.”

All three of them looked annoyed as she called them doggy, except for Ryan, who was grinning at them.

After saying her goodbyes, Lillian ran towards her grandmother’s house.

Freya walked beside Ryan, who watched Lillian running towards the house.

‘Brother. I know that she is your mate, but she will bring trouble to the pack.’ Freya told him.

Ryan sighed.

‘I was wondering when you were going to bring that up.’ He headed back into the forest. They followed him.

‘What do you plan to do, Alpha?’ Randall asked.

‘Fight Shadow head on. A fight between me and him can’t be avoided.’’

‘What about the pack?’ Karlie asked.

‘He just wants to fight with me. The pack will not have any losses.’ He told them.

‘But what if…’ Karlie couldn’t complete her sentence.

‘I know what you three are worried about. The pack and Lillian are equally important to me. I won’t let anything happen to both.’ He promised.

‘What if you had to choose?’ Freya asked.

Ryan stopped, and so did the others.

‘I don’t know, Freya. Protecting the pack is important, but now protecting Lillian is important too. You know what happens to a werewolf when they lose their mates. You know… what happened to our father. Even though he chose the pack instead of our mother, he regretted it and chose to be with her in the end.’

Everyone fell silent after that and return to the pack.

The rest of the wolves in the pack howled as their Alpha returned.

‘Hunter Wolves! Prepare for dinner!’ he ordered.

The hunter wolves howled once and ran away to hunt for food. They returned an hour later with dinner. They had good luck today and managed to hunt three deer, so they had a big feast.

‘I have to protect them but… I have to protect My Luna too. If I were to choose, who will I choose?’ he asked himself.

But wasn’t able to find the answer.

‘Freya. Randall. Karlie.’ He blocked everyone else out, Freya, Karlie and Randall.

They looked at him.

‘Let’s not tell anyone about Luna yet.’

Everyone nodded their head in union.

Ryan closed his eye and felt Lillian’s excited and happy feelings. He smiled and then walked away and went to his parents’ grave. He sat in front of them.

“What would you do if you had a second chance, dad? Would you still have picked the pack?” he asked.

But there was no one who could answer.

“Thought I’d find you here.” Freya said coming behind him.

He turned his head and saw him coming towards him.

“I wish they were still alive.” He told her.

She stopped and rested her head against him.

“Me too.” She told him.

“Do you think I make a good Alpha?” he asked her.

“You’re trying your best for the pack and that makes you a good Alpha.” She told him.

She smirked playfully at him. She raised her paw and patted his head.

“There, there doggy.” She told him and laughed.

His ears fell in annoyance. He looked at her dead, annoyed.

“Shut up before I scratch that expression of your stupid face.” He told her.

She shoved her paw into his shoulder.

“Nice. Keep telling mom and dad how much of a brat you are?” she told him and walked away.

He sighed and shook his head at his sister.
