Without having to look, I know all the color drains out of my face the moment I heard those words. I feel faint, and if I wasn’t already sitting down, my legs would have given out beneath me.

“What? No. It can’t be possible.” Disbelief is the only thing running in my mind right now, fighting to push out any thoughts of my sister trapped in those container vans.

I lift my head in time to see Dante nod solemnly. “She’s young, beautiful, and untouched. She would have fetched a high price.”

What the actual fuck? Does Serafino’s cruelty know no bounds?

I feel sick. Swallowing the bile that’s risen to my throat, I silently wonder how long it would take to get to the bathroom or if I would even make it.

“Noah did the right thing when he escaped with her.” Dante’s trying to make me feel better. I can tell from how gentle he’s being and how delicate he’s treating this situation. For that, I’m grateful.

“My baby sister…”

“Jean, she’s safe now.” I hear Dante’s voice but his words don’t register.
