XIII - Killian

1794

There were two things on my mind when I received a new letter from Arung. One he said he had loyalty to the gods and goddesses, and could only give me only certain information about the black marketer we've been trying to catch. That pissed me off. The second was that he was still not telling me what he was. There was only a handful of creatures that were immortal, and no one could figure out what he was.

I unsealed the letter and read it carefully.

Alpha King Killian,

Unfortunately this is the last letter I will be able to write you, I and a select few others must go into hiding. We set fire to one of Thomas Mills hideouts, there were a lot of deaths. I will write once again when it is safe. I was told to tell you good luck with Elila, by Voivode Vlad. You need to choose a Beta soon, it's too dangerous to not have a Beta during these times.

Arung Singkang,  Head of the Singkang Clan of Astrosphinxes.

I put the letter down and stood up. He was right, I would need to choose a Beta soon. The Beta Trials would need to start soon, other Alpha's were looking for new Beta's as well. Perfect oppurtunity. I gathered some Warriors and we began writing out letters informing every Alpha and Royal about the Beta Trials.

The Beta Trials were dangerous and life threatening. Four months in the A****n Rainforest, and then over half a year in The Black Forest. Many got sick or died from the dangers, that was why I was going to give the participants an out this year.

Now to deal with Elila Mills. She was a mate finder that was a pain in the ass to deal with. She was going to hold events until we found my mate. It was more like she was going to be spending almost everything I got until we found my mate. After making sure each letter was sealed with wax and my official seal, we sent falcons out with them.

It was at supper, when I was drinking wine that I wondering who would survive the Black Forest. The only ones to advance to the Black Forest were ones who wanted to be the Beta or Second in Command to a Royal.

I looked at my Gamma and his mate, they were aging. I had been through many Beta's and Gamma's, because of me being half Vampire. I was born all the way back in the 1400s. There were very few I knew who were born in that century; People who were still alive. Vlad Tepes being one of them, even though very few actually ever saw what he really looked like. Even I knew I had met with a fake.

I put my wine glass down and stood up. My Stripe looked at me and I shook my head.

"I will be out for a run; I'm unsure when I will return." I told them, before I left the dining hall.

Outside under the setting sun, I removed my clothes before I shifted into my tiger form and took off running. I often went for runs when I needed to think. I slowed down when I saw some warriors along the territory line. The ones in human form bowed, while the ones in tiger form nodded their heads in greeting. I walked along the territory and only stopped when I saw a deer. It was sickly looking. I crouched down, watching as it grazed the forest floor, before I ran at it. It tried to escaped, but with one leap I clamped my teeth around it's neck, the blood seeping into my mouth as you could hear it's neck breaking. I ate the deer, sharing it with the few warriors that stopped near me. The men in human form buried the rest of the carcas and I looked up at what little of the sky I could see through the forest. There was still enough light, I would walk back. It was going to be a long year once the trials started.

The shift changed, and so the Warriors heading home walked back with me. It was peaceful, but I would never let anyone know that. There was no time for peace, not while there were wars raging and a vile Vampire to hunt down. There was no room for weaknesses in my Warriors. I knew they had them, but they did not let them show; Made them strong.
