Chapter 4: A Rich and Prominent Groom

Trying to control her temper, Chin Cho said to her mother “mom, am sorry to disappoint you, I would not be attending the wedding. First I don’t have transport fare, and secondly, I don’t have a befitting clothe.” She said hopping that she would be able to dissuades her mother.

“Well you don’t have to bother about those things, I have made provisions for those things, I bought you a new clothe and I have saved some money.” she countered her daughter.

Ae-Cha was very prepared for her daughter. Not that she was happy preventing her daughter from preparing for her exams, but she wanted Elvis to know that she was behind him in the family matters.

It was this her character that has made Elvis to cherish her more than the other woman. He had refused every effort by Jane for him to divorce Ae-Cha, but he has sticked to her, let Jane kill him if she wants but he would not divorce Ae-Cha.

Their divorce is dependent on Ae-Cha.

Although, the Jane woman was smarter, sharper, and more educated than Ae-Cha and always have devised a means to frustrate Ae-Cha and her daughter. Including Elvis efforts towards them.

These did not deter Elvis or Ae-Cha from  each other anytime they found the opportunity.

So Ae-Cha had been in competition with the other woman for the past 25 years, and anything that she will do to continue to retain the love of Elvis, she will continue to do. And going to the wedding or sending her daughter was one of those things.

Chin Cho did not know what else to use as an excuse, she decided to come out clean.

Shaking her head in disgust, that her mother would even think of it, she said to her

“mom, fact is that I dislike those people, and would avoid anything that would bring me in contact with them.” Showing her dislike on her face, she spat bitterly.

Her step-mother Jane; though living very far from them was a devil’s incarnate. Her daughter was not an exception.

“please Cho for my sake go, your father promised me some money for my medical treatment and for months he has not given me the money. she said persuasively.

“If you attend the wedding, he would be very happy to see you and his heart would be merry because of the ceremony and he would give you the money for my medical treatment.”

Elvis had promised her some money, “my daughter will be getting married very soon, and her husband is very rich and prominent, Bon-Hwa Jr. and am hoping to have a lot of money for the wedding preparation.” Elvis had told her.

And for sure Bon-Hwa Jr. had sent a lot of money to the Chin’s family to prepare their own side for the wedding. The money was only to entertain their visitors.

The money was sent only few days to the wedding, and Elvis was hoping that after the wedding, he would find a way of collecting some of the money from Jane and give to Ae-Cha.

Before now Elvis had told Ae-Cha how rich and generous his would be son –in law was.

All Ae-Cha knew about the man was that he was of the Bon-Hwa family. The Bon-Hwa’s family was a very large family comprising three different powerful branches.

After hearing that, Ae-Cha had been saying in her heart; ‘Jane is really privileged to have her daughter getting married to the Bon-Hwa family. They were not only rich and powerful, but they were said to be treating their women well.’

Ae- Cha; Chin Cho’s mother had been suffering from atherosclerosis for a very long time, she developed this sickness some eighteen years ago or so. It is a heart condition that develops as a result of excessive and uncontrolled high blood pressure.  Treatments include medication, procedures to open blocked arteries and surgery. she is yet to have a very proper medical attention due to lack of money.

Today, she believed that the man would be willing to give her the money for her medical treatment.

Elvis had already told her on the phone that Bon-Hwa Jr. had sent them the money, and was only waiting to see how to get it from Jane whose account was used for the collection of the money.

Elvis wanted to use his own account, but the woman would not agree with him and instead of fighting over the money, he decided to let them use her account for the money.

Elvis would give the money by hand, it would not be transferred into Ae- Cha’s account.

Jane has Ae-Cha’s and Chin Cho’s bank verification codes, nobody knew how she got the codes, any money transferred to Ae-Cha or Chin Cho by Elvis, is automatically notified in Jane ’s phone.

And she would immediately block the withdrawal.

When Elvis discovered this, he stopped transferring money to them, but will always take it to them personally.

When Jane discovered that Elvis has started hand giving them money, she installed a GPS tracker in his car  and other items and monitor his movement.

And whenever he comes back from giving them money, he would not have peace until he promises not to have anything to do with Ae-Cha and Chin Cho.

So for more than twenty years now, it has been a battle between the two women. And Ae-Cha was not willing to give up and give the other woman what she wanted.

Her only setback back was the sickness, which has rendered her useless and inactive. This sickness was developed as a result of the shock of Elvis’s deception.

When she met with Elvis, and they fell in love, Elvis had told her that he was not married. They became lovers and she got pregnant of Chin Cho, and they got married at the Marriage Registry Office in Ado city. But after sometimes, she found out that he was legally married to a woman called Jane .

She had a heart attack and became sick since then.

Because of the sickness, she was not able to work formerly, and she only depends on what Elvis was able to provide for both her meals and medical treatments.

And this had been a burden to Chin Cho, ‘her mother’s medical treatment.’

So whenever, the mother mentions medical treatment, Chin Cho would always feel sad and helpless.
