04 Dead End

Ruby.

I did not waste time packing up to spend two days with Racheal. We were not going there to have fun. We were on a mission to search for Jasper. Our first move the moment we got to her house, was to browse the internet and social media for men with the name Jasper. He went through five hundred profiles and soon fell asleep. After breakfast, we continued the search, after searching one thousand, we gave up. There was no way we could find him online.

"Let us ask the motel. Maybe he paid with his card and left an address or a full name," Racheal said, and I felt stupid that I did not think of that in the first place. We decided to visit the motel. The moment we got there, I was filled with regrets. How could this guy do this to me? He knew the way the wolf community was. No one would ever want me if he is still living and breathing, and even if he dies, it would be hard to find another mate. My only option would be to settle with a human and that was prohibited in most packs if not all because of the risk of breeding wolfless wolves. I was doomed.

We went to the reception to make our inquiries. The receptionist had an attitude and got on our nerves, but we needed her help so badly that we had to woman up and take it.

"Please I need to know if a customer by the name Jasper, left any details," I requested and she looked at me as If I had asked her a dumb question.

"We do not disclose our.." I did not let her finish when I placed money on the desk.

"Please, lives depend on this information," I said to her, and her expression turned from bitchy to concerned.

"What is his name?" She asked, looking at the computer.

"Jasper," I said, and she raised an eyebrow at me.

"Jasper who?" She asked me as if I were stupid.

"That is all I have got," I said, and she sighed.

"When was he here?" She asked.

"Two nights ago," I asked, and she scrolled on the computer.

"There is a Jasper here for eleven forty-three," She said, and we waited.

"What is his last name, please?" I asked eagerly.

"Did not say. Just reads Jasper," she said, and I got frustrated.

"How can you give a room to someone that you do not know his last name?" I asked her, raising my voice, and Racheal cautioned me to calm down.

"I dont know what your problem is lady, but you need to watch your tone. Is there anything else you want?" She asked, and Racheal leaned forward.

"What about the name on his credit card?" she asked.

"he paid cash," she replied.

"Do you have any information other than his first name?" I asked her with tears in my eyes. I did not know I was crying until I felt the moisture running down my cheeks.

"Well, he left a phone number," she said, and I was ecstatic.

"That is great, awesome in fact". I gave her more money. "Please let me have it."

She scribbled it down on a paper and handed it to me. She held on tight to the end of the paper while I tried to take it from her.

"You didn't get this information here," she warned us, and I nodded. She released the paper, and I thanked her for it. We did not walk far when I tried to call the number. To my surprise, it was switched off. I began to cry.

"What is the matter, Ruby?"

"The number is switched off. I can't reach him," I said and began to cry. Racheal hugged me.

"Don't cry. We have a plan B. If we can't find him, then we have to lie," She said, and I tried to giggle because I knew it was her effort of making me laugh, but I was too distraught to laugh.

"Let us Check out the construction site. The apartment is located there," She said, referring to the project we lied about, and I shook my head.

"I am not up to it, Ray. I just want to go home and keep scrolling through the social media," I said, and she sighed and nodded. We returned to her house, and I went back to the computer and began to search. I did not eat. It wasn't deliberate. I was too worried and scared to be hungry. This guy was shady. He might be a criminal or a fugitive or maybe worse, a rogue. No normal person would not want to leave a trace behind. I now understood why he didn't take my number. He did not want me to call him. I had a feeling the phone would never come one, but I intended to keep trying until The last minutes.

TWO DAYS LATER.

Our Search adventure had finally come to an end. We looked for him everywhere. We visited the bars and clubs and stalked the motel for two nights. He was a no show. It was as if he had come to that club specifically for me, done what he wanted and left. Slowly I began to realise I had to lie. We were unable to visit the construction site because of the problem, but it wasn't important, to begin with. As morning came, I realised time was up. I had dinner with Randolph that evening, so I had to tell my family the concocted story before then so they could help me deal with Randolph on the matter. I wasn't looking forward to it. I was afraid as hell. I knew my father and brother could be extreme. I dreaded what they might do to me if they found out I got wasted and wasted my life away. I blew the one shot at becoming Luna and having Alpha pups. My father's dream had always been to upgrade our status, and I had done the unthinkable and pissed it all away.

I sluggishly left Racheal's house. On my way home, all I could think of was my father's reaction to my words. I hated Jasper for what he did to me. He had ruined my life and went on with his. This was wicked and cruel. I could never forgive him for this. I started thinking of ways to appease my family and the alpha's family. Maybe I should offer to bear him pups with no commitment since that was why they were joining us together in the first place. Maybe he might accept it, and once that is over, I would have to give up my babies and leave town. My imagination kept running wild. The fear of the unknown plagued me, and through it all, Kira was silent.

I got home, and as usual, no one was home. I would have to call them. Racheal offered to come with me, but I did not want her to receive the effect of their first reaction. It wasn't her fault that I got into bed with the bastard. I did not want to drag her down with me. She deserved better. She had done a lot already, and corroborating my story was kind enough. I did not want to bring harm to my friend. Kira dreaded what would happen because unlike other wolf families, by father beats. I have seen him do it to my brothers, never to me. He would order them to shift and then beat their wolves. That way, he could inflict pain without leaving a mark. It was a discipline practised by the top families of our pack. Although my father had never done it to me before, I doubted if he would spare me this time.
