Chapter 40

Violet

I don’t remember walking through the rest of the garden or searching the parking lot for Olive’s Porsche. I couldn’t recall the faces I’d passed or the harsh things they whispered. Their words floated above my head, circling my ears but unable to break through, weaving in and out of my hair until they faded under the golden afternoon sunlight.

Somehow, I managed to find Olive’s car, slumping against the side as what happened replayed in my head like a movie—one where I was the star.

What I did remember was the first thing I said to Olive when she found me, practically dry heaving against the driver’s side of her car.

“What did he do?” She demanded; her smoky eyes lined in dark coal narrowing.

Olive didn’t need a name; she was too observant for that. I was an onlooker trapped within my own body as she toted me to the passenger side and helped me in. Once she slid into the driver’s seat, and the engine roared to life, she turned to face me.

“All of my pills—all of them.” I

I love it! Can’t wait for more!! Also, though Olive wasn’t really in this chapter, I feel very invested in her story… like why did Blaze choose her? Could they actually be mates and have an even deeper hate relationship than Violet and Hazel? Maybe due to a rejection?

Jealousy looks good on you Hael! I wonder if he will end up helping her when she starts withdrawals from her meds, or maybe Holden will swoop in and make him even more jealous ;)
