Chapter 1

Maddox's POV

Oh my gosh I can't wait to get home, I'm practically bouncing in my seat as the packhouse finally comes into view.

My name is Maddox and I just turned 18 Three days ago.

My parents are both males, my father who was the previous Alpha is Thaddeus and my dad his mate is Aiden.

My older brother Reid is now the current Alpha of our pack the Midnight Moon pack.

I have a twin sister Isabel we call Izzy.

My dad and his twin sister were what they called the magical twins. They were born with special abilities, special powers. My dad passed on those powers to us three kids. My sister and I since we're twins, our powers are connected, the further apart we are the weaker our powers get. But Addison's grandmother had these special crystals blessed by her coven. As long as Isabel and I both wear our crystal it connects us so our powers aren't as weak when we're separated.

My older brother Reid is the strongest of us three. Since he's not a twin he doesn't need anyone to enhance his powers. He has the ability to move things with his mind like my sister and I but his unique gift is that he can harness ice and create it in his hands.

He can pull it from the ground or he can shoot it from his hands to kill his enemies.

My sister's unique ability is she can harness fire, she can shoot fire from her hands, from a little stream to a giant ball that explodes on contact.

I can harness energy, I can create it in my hands and shoot it out at my enemies similar to my sister. Either in a small stream or a large ball that explodes on contact. I also have one extra ability, I can freeze people or objects that are moving.

Comes in hand when you want to screw with your bigger brother who's trying to tear your head off for playing a prank on him. Which I'm definitely good for a prank or two.

Which reminds me, I quickly grab my bag and open it and smile when I see my new supply that I picked up while away. I smile and try not to giggle knowing my brother is long overdue for a good prank or two.

"What's so funny over there?" My father asked.

I quickly zip my bag up.

"oh nothing, nothing. Just thinking of something funny that's all."

I say as I look out the window trying to hide my smile. I noticed my dad's shaking his head, obviously seeing right through my lie.

I went away 6 months ago for Alpha training and was supposed to be back 3 days before my birthday but ended up getting snowed in so here I am arriving 2 days after my sister and I turned 18.

Not only did it suck that I had to spend a birthday without my twin but I was looking forward to it for another reason. Addison!

Addison is my sister's best friend who we grew up with from diapers.

Seven months ago she turned 18 and found out I was her mate. My sister was in the middle of trying to plan Addison's big 18th birthday party when Addison walked through the door and realized I was her mate.

Flashback

"Oh my Goddess sis you're killing my game!" I said as I let out and exaggerated sigh before setting my controller down.

It's no use trying to play this damn game when she's sitting here yapping her mouth going on and on about Addison's birthday.

"Just help me pick which one."

She said desperately trying to get me to look at her phone.

"Just have her pick it!

Oh, speaking of the devil here she is. Have her pick it out it's her birthday."

I said as I turn to look at Addison as she walked into the room.

"Izzy I just finished picking..."

I watched her as she froze and stopped mid sentence while staring at me. I cocked an eyebrow at her waiting for her to finish her sentence.

"Go on." I said still waiting on her to finish her sentence.

I furrowed my eyebrows at her confused, why she was just standing there with her mouth hanging open. I watched as her mouth closed and her body seemed to tense almost as if it was trembling.

"No fucking way!"

She whispered and my stomach dropped.

Oh my goddess, it's her birthday....

"You know what, I'm not really feeling good.... Yeah I have to... I have to go."

She said and my stomach dropped even further as I watched her turn around and practically run out of the pack house.

I got up and went to the door and opened it. I watched her as she ran down the driveway and across the grass as she took off toward her house. It was then I caught the lightest scent of her, she doesn't want me.

The look of shock and disappointment on her face was incredibly obvious not to mention what she mumbled. I felt my heart break as I hung my head and closed the door before slowly walking up stairs to my room. Ignoring my sister as she tried to call me back to help her.

I walk to my bed and let myself fall backwards onto it as I let out the breath. I stared at the ceiling as I thought about what happened. All these years my sisters annoying friend turns out to be my mate.

Her insanely gorgeous but annoying friend. How have I not seen this coming. How is it that me and my sister are able to smell our mates before our 18th birthday.

It was very faint, but I still could smell that she was my mate. My wolf was whimpering in my head, he saw her reaction too.... He heard her words and tucked his tail whimpering right away.

That's okay Apollo don't worry about her. We don't need her I said to my whimpering wolf.

I wonder if she's going to reject me now or wait until I'm 18?

You know what screw that, I'm going to reject her first. I'm not going to wait for her to do it.... Wait a minute do I have to wait until I'm 18 to reject someone? Crap I'm not even sure how that works.

I hauled myself up off my bed and made my way to the library. I need to look this up and see if I can find any information on this.

I freeze as soon as my hand was on the door knob. I feel my heart ache at the thought of even looking for this kind of information let alone considering even doing it. I turn around and rest my back against the door, letting myself slide down as I drop to the floor. I rest my head back against the door and let out of a breath as I run my hands down my face.

"Fuck!... Goddess this hurts!" I whisper as I rub my hand against my chest trying to make the pain go away.

Is it because I'm always joking and too playful or "obnoxious", as everyone seems to call me.

If that's the case then I don't need her, I don't need someone who doesn't like who I am. This is who I am, I'm a playful person who likes to joke around a lot. If she doesn't like that then I don't need her. I need someone who's going to want me for who I am and this is who I am!

With my new found determination I push myself off the floor and quickly walk until the library.

Ugh, this is ridiculous! I've been through so many stupid books and none of them say anything about rejecting before your 18th birthday.

I did however find out why my sister and I can smell our mate before our 18th birthday.

Apparently it's not uncommon for twins to be able to identify their mate if their mate is already 18. They can identify their mate within the year before they turn 18. It's not the full mate pull, the scent and every thing that goes along with the mate bond is very weak. But it gets stronger the closer you get to 18.

The key to being able to identify your mate before 18 is if you are aware the other person is your mate. That is the trigger that activates the ability to identify them.

I sat back and rub my chest again. Goddess I can't even imagine how bad this would hurt if I was 18 and the mate bond was fully there.

I dragged myself out of the library and head back to my bedroom. I paused at my door, maybe I should do this today before the full moon tomorrow.

The full moon will probably only make the mate pull stronger. It'll make the rejection even more painful than it already is.

I let out of breath as I ran my hand through my hair. "You can do this Maddox." I said to myself as I turned and headed for the stairs.

Come on Maddox, just lift your hand and knock on the door. I said to myself trying to get my arm to work.

I've literally been standing in front of her door for the past 5 minutes trying to get myself to knock on the door.

Just as I was finally able to raise my hand the door suddenly opened. Addison quickly stood back startled.

"Goddess Maddox, you scared the life out of me!" She said holding her hand over her chest.

Right after she said that her body tensed up and she took a step back.

"What, what are you doing here?"

She said as she took another step back.

I felt the pain intensify as I now stood in front of her. I can smell her so much stronger being right in front of her. Looking at the beautiful angel in front of me, how can I do this. Why can't she just want me.

But I can see it even more clearly now as she looks at me, I can see how much she doesn't even want me here in front of her right now.

"I know, I know what we are.... I said pausing as I shook my head.

I'll just, I'll just let you be free of this stupid thing. I said then took a deep breath,

I Maddox James Anderson of the Midnight Moon pack reject you Addi-omph." I said but was cut off when she leaped at me throwing her hand over my mouth causing us both to fall backwards.

"What the hell are you doing?" She yelled while laying on top of me with her hand still over my mouth. The look of anger written clear across her face.

I laid there looking at her surprised as her chest heaved while looking at me. I saw her eyes start to water as she stared at me.

"Why? Why would you even do that?"

She said her voice breaking as her lower lip trembled. She slowly removed her hand as she sat back.

I laid there dumbfounded for a moment.

"I.... I thought this is what you wanted." I said as I felt my own eyes tear up.

"Why in the world would you think that?"

She said looking at me as if I was crazy.

I sat up as she climbed off me. I felt angry as I looked at her.

"I saw the way you looked at me back there, I heard what you said!

No fucking way! That was your exact words! How the hell am I supposed to think it was anything else!?"

I said waiting for her to tell me I'm wrong, I know I'm not.

She let out of breath as she ran her hand through her hair, pushing it out of her face.

"I didn't mean it like that."

She said in a calmer softer voice.

"It just surprised me that's all. You've been like a little brother to me my whole life. I never thought in a million years we would be mated.

I also know you don't like girls you like guys. You've made that abundantly clear through the years that you're attracted to men, not women."

She said as she turned and walked away before walking back toward me.

"I said no fucking way because I couldn't believe I was mates to somebody who wasn't even into me and never could be. How could you be when you like guys?"

She said as her voice broke and tears ran down her face.

This whole time that never dawned on me. I have always been attracted to men and not women. I've never once found the female body attractive. I have always been attracted to the male body. I always thought my mate would be male not female.

But the moment I realized she was my mate I never even thought of this fact.

It's like everything I felt before suddenly went out the window once I realized she was my mate. As soon as I smelled her scent she was all I could think of and all I wanted. I didn't care she was female, I just wanted her.

My eye shifted from the ground back to hers and my heart broke seeing her cry. The tears streaming down her face.

I quickly stepped forward wrapping my arms around her and pulling her into me. I want you Addison! I don't want anyone else but you! You're the one the Moon Goddess has chose for me, I don't want anyone else but you."

I said pressing a kiss to the side of her head as I held her. I felt her shoulder shake as she broke down crying while she hung onto me.

"How do I already love you?"

She said through her broken voice with her face still buried in my neck.

I felt my heart skip a beat when she said that.

"Because I'm awesome!"

I said smiling. I felt her hit my back before pushing away from me smiling.

"You're such a jerk!"

She said before pressing a kiss to my lips. As soon as I felt her lips on mine I felt the faint sensation of the tiny little sparks and zaps of the mate bond. I felt like I was in heaven as her soft plump lips pressed against mine.

When she pulled away I stayed there with my eyes closed until I heard her giggle. I slowly open my eyes to see her looking at me giggling.

I realized I was still sitting there with my lips puckered and my eyes closed looking like a fool. I immediately felt my face and ears get hot as the blush quickly spread across my face all the way to the tip of my ears. Of course this only made her laugh harder as she's shook her head at me.

"Goddess Maddox, your so cute!"

She said before grabbing my hand and dragging me down the stairs.

"Where we going?"

"Back to your sister before she hunts me down to the end of the Earth. You know her, she's probably pissed I took off like I did." She said.

"Yeah I'm surprised she didn't get here before I did."

I said shaking my head thinking of my sister. She's probably storming the pack house right now pissed that we both took off on her.
