Chapter 4: Goldilocks

“We will forgive you on one condition… that you pay back,” One of the ladies with the man said.

“I am very good with house chores. I can help out with whatever you want!” I quickly mentioned.

My heart was racing so fast in my chest, I thought I would pass out. How could I have been so stupid? How could I have let my hunger get the better of me? I shouldn’t have come into this cottage! And most importantly I shouldn’t have slept in their house!

“You will have to stay here with my brother as his surrogate,” the lady that spoke first said.

The room seem to fall into silence as my brain took in their words. A surrogate meant I would have to give him a child… or was there another meaning to this?

“What do you mean?” I stuttered as my fingers started to shake in fear.

The lady wanted to speak but the brother beat her to it, “Estelle, I don’t think that would be necessary,” he said as he eyed my body and walked out of the room.
