Chapter 8: Goldilocks

I know he told me to get some rest but I couldn’t. I wasn’t used to this kind of treatment. Deep down, a voice told me he would come in and hurt me. I kept my eyes open as I sat on the bed with my knees propped on it and folded to my chest. This way, if he came in here, I would be able to run off and save myself somehow.

I wasn’t entirely naïve. I knew some very cruel men in town who kidnapped girls and used them for their personal goals and objectives without actually marrying them. I didn’t want to escape slavery from my parents and then come get it at the hands of a strangely beautiful man in the middle of the forest.
