Chapter 6

  Xavier.

I winced in pain as a silver plated wing tore through my arm and I let howled loudly, leaping into the air and pulling the vampire by the wings. I smashed him to the ground and I sent my spears right through his heart.

I looked around me to see several dead bodies. Several dead werewolves lying on the earth that had become red and blood soaked. All I could here was the clashing of swords, snarls, howls and the cries of wounded soldiers.

I locked eyes with a vampire and he snarled at me, dashing towards me and slashing his silver plated wings at me. I roared and bent to the side, quickly using the chance to stun him with a punch before plucking out his hands with my bare hands.

The vampires outnumbered us and I watched my fellow wolfs get killed by the merciless savages. I looked to the right to see Lena fighting off two vampires and using her sword to counter their wings. We had long transformed back into our human form after so much forceful reverting and we were all completed naked.

My eyes darted to a vampire sneaking up behind her and I stabbed the two vampires beside me with my spears before rushing towards her to save her.

I ran with every speed in me and was so close to her when a vampire smashed me in the fave with his wings.

I went tumbling to the ground and I looked up to see the vampire send his wings through her heart.

“Lenaaaaaa!!!” I screamed. The next moment, I was no longer in that battlefield and I met myself in a open space.

I breathed in, trying to recover my breath. The smell of freshly cut grass drifted across the meadow with the clippings scattered over the turf. The branches of the giant oak tree swayed to and fro in the wind, shaking the leaves, so they fell like raindrops, their green color fading and replaced by patches of brown.

The weather seemed perfect as the sun was shining and no clouds were in sight. The meadow was spacious, with a collection of trees and bushes guarding the perimeter.

Before me was a gathering of thick white fogs and I couldn’t see into it or past it no matter how hard I tried. Suddenly I saw someone appear before me and I looked closer to see a lady standing before me. She looked like Lena and the same time looked like.....Valerie. She was smiling at me.

She stretched out her hands towards me and I stretched out my hands to receive hers. As I tried to grab her, she was being drawn backward and I kept moving closer towards her.

“Grab my hands,” she said and I ran forward to grab her hands but she was drawn backward even more. I tried again and she continued being drawn backward.

“Grab my hands?” She screamed and I ran forward, her screams dying out as she got sucked into the fog that became black.

My eyes suddenly shot open and my chest rose up and down as I panted heavily. I was sweating profusely and I looked around to see myself lying on my bed in my room. Thunder roared violently and lightning crackled in the sky as the rain fell in heavy torrents.

I rejected her. What did I do?! I f**king rejected her!!

I hurriedly climbed down from my bed and I put on my shirt, rushing out of my room and knocking on her door.

There was no response and I knocked again.

Once again, there was no response. I immediately got violent with the door knob and I forcefully twisted it open.

I ran into the room and couldn’t find her any where.

  Where was she?

I rushed towards the bathroom and then looked in the closet, but she was nowhere to be found. Why was I getting the feeling that she was in dangerous feeling.

I rejected her, the mate pull should have been broken immediately.

  Vampire.

  She was vampire.

Since we weren’t both wolves, it would take the two of us to break the bond. I dashed out of the room and I had barely far when I saw Nathan approaching. I stopped running and he faced me with an expression that said, “what’s wrong?”

“Nathan, have you seen Valerie?” I asked and he gave a negative nod.

“No.” He replied, “is everything all right?” Nathan asked and I swallowed nervously. I could talk to him.

“I made a mistake, Nathan.” I breathed, “I was angry and I behaved stupid.” Nathan had a confused expression and I continued to panic. I was actually panicking. I was panicking because of a vampire.

“Nathan, I rejected her. I rejected Valerie and now she’s nowhere to be found.” Nathan looked disappointed, but there was no sign of judgement in his expression. He sure knew everything I had faced and it wasn’t my fault. It wasn’t.

“Xavier, calm down. We are going to look for her.” Nathan patted my back and I felt my Alpha ego try to rebuke me, but I pushed it down. Not now.

  “She’s in danger, I know.” I said.

“Ask everyone. Someone must have seen her.” I faced Nathan instantly. Good idea. Immediately, I created a mind link with the entire pack members and broadcasted a single message.

‘Who has seen the vampire. Nobody is to hurt her.’

Nathan also heard the message and he nodded at me. We remained quiet for a while and soon, I received a feedback from someone.

“She came by the kitchen some minutes ago.” I and Nathan shared a quick glance and we suddenly dashed towards the kitchen.

“Valerie. Valerie.” I called out to her as I ran into the kitchen, bit she wasn’t there. I ruffled my hair with my fingers in frustration and Nathan scanned the area.

I suddenly stopped moving entirely as the smell of blood drifted into my nose.

  It was vampire blood.

  My mate’s blood.

I traced the smell of the blood and I felt myself panic. I threw open the door and looked outside to see Valerie fending off a wolf. A large wolf. She was badly injured and she could barely do anything to defend herself from its attacks..

I growled instantly and I instantly transformed into a wolf, leaping into the air and pouncing on the wolf. He wanted to struggle against me, but he calmed down the instant I released my Alpha aura on him. He yielded and transformed back to his human form.

  It was Carver.

I also transformed and ran forward to catch Valerie as she slumped.

I walked into the pack with Valerie in my arms and everyone had come outside. Every eyes was on me as I carried Valerie to my room. I saw Gina walk up to me and her face paled on sighting me.

She had a disapproving expression, but I didn’t care. All I said was, “you were right, I’ve lost a mate before. I’m not ready to lose another.”
