THIRTY SEVEN: BACK TO WINTERVILLE

He looked shocked for a minute before his face regained its composure. He asked, “Are you sure?”

I nodded, “Yes.” I wasn’t scared this time to face them.

He left a soft sigh and embraced me in a hug. It felt warm under his embrace. His large hand caressed my head and my tense nerves calmed down on their own.

“You will no longer face this, I promise you that.” his voice was soft like his touch and the truth in it melted my heart like ice under fire. Why did it feel so safe with him?

But then the image of Sam hugging me once and promising to protect me flashed in my mind. I also thought at that time that I was safe under him. But I wasn’t.

I broke the hug and moved away from Dominic. He looked displeased by the action but wasn’t verbal about it. He moved closer to me, just like he did whenever he found me getting away from him, and cupped my face in his hands.
