Chapter 10

Jane could not speak and her body trembles even more.

She wanted to go on a hunger strike to protest, but Quinn volunteers to feed her, and privately tortures her in this way, twice a day.

\"Janie, do you know why I hate you so much?\" Quinn sits beside her sister and slaps the nurse in the shoulder to go away.

\"You and I are both daughters of the Jiang family but we have different destinies. Why are you the eldest lady of the Jiang family and I am the illegitimate daughter?\"

  Quinn\'s eyes showing strong resentment.

Cough! The tube in Jane’s mouth tears off and her throat is sore.

Quinn laughs, \"You won\'t be proud of it for long since you have a terminal illness. Your lucky to live an extra day.\"

\"Terminal illness?\" Jane froze, her broken eyes stares at Quinn in confusion.

\"You think I’m lying?\" she sneers at her and throws the torn medical record in front of her piece by piece.

She took care of everything and Liam would not know about it for the time being.

Jane stares blankly at the ceiling as terror slowly climbs up her back along her spine.

“How could I have gotten the disease,” she thought to herself.

\"You can live up to half a year.\" Quinn tilted her head and smiles \"But if you knock out the child your life span can be extended.\"

  \"No!\" Jane shouts.

She was kept alone for countless days and nights, and the only thing that stays with her was the little life in her stomach.

She could feel the fetus moving and the thought of killing it was most appalling.

  \"No… No!\"

Quinn shrugs and briskly walks out the ward.

Slam! The room was dark again and Jane gasps, sweating in despair.

  “Only half a year left.”

It seems that every step she takes is wrong. There is an abyss in front of her and at her back is purgatory.

  “What should I do?”

At the height of her sadness, her bulging abdomen moves. She twists her wrist vigorously, trying to break free from the strap. She wants to touch her child but she couldn\'t even do this trivial thing. Jane clenches her teeth, tears rolling down silently.

She struggles like a trapped beast in the dark, panting, not one soul knowing her suffering.

  …

Sitting behind the desk, Liam holds Quinn sitting on his lap. With one hand, he browses through a travel brochure.

\"What about here?\" Quinn shyly points at a photo in a girly manner. “It’s so beautiful!”

A white church in the middle of an island resort. A popular spot where couples go for marriage.

Liam\'s eyebrows hardens, the pain buried deep in his heart suddenly rouses. The familiar church was the place where he and Jane were supposed to get married.

\"Not that one.\" He turns the page and points casually, \"There.\"

Bitterness flashes in Quinn\'s eyes but she softly agrees.

The door sounds off a knock twice and a doctor walks in with a medical record. The two exchange information silently.

\"President Chu, there is some significant weight loss caused by the hunger strike but nothing alarming. Miss Jiang’s vitals are very healthy and the child is well developed.\" The doctor says nonchalantly and looks away.

\"Hh! In my hospital? a hunger strike in my hospital?\" Liam boasts slightly, \"Let her be, as long as the child is healthy, nobody cares if she lives or dies.\"

  ...

\"Mom, I\'m fine, the child will be born in a couple of few days, so don\'t worry.\"

Jane smiles and says to her mother in the wheelchair.

She was sitting on her breast. Her face was yellowish, her limbs were thin. If she hadn\'t held her nine-month-old belly, she would not look like a pregnant woman at all.

She was about to give birth and Liam finally agreed to let her go and let her mother come to visit from time to time. It was not that he showed mercy but only to avoid affecting the health of the baby.

\"Janie, you are too skinny, it was your mother who hurt you.\"

Her mother puts down the half-knit clothes in her hand, grabs her daughter\'s hand distressingly, and stops talking. They stare at each other almost crying.

Liam and Quinn got married and went on the honeymoon trip. Later, it was reported that Quinn was also pregnant. But her daughter, who was about to give birth, was left alone in the ward.

Maria did not dare to tell her daughter the news, for fear of irritating the child in her belly. She could only secretly wipe her tears in the dead of night.

\"Mom, isn\'t it just giving birth to a child?\" Jane smiles, \"Although I won\'t see the child, Liam will give me a lot of money. Then I will treat your legs and take you on a trip.\"

Maria couldn\'t help it anymore and fully bursts into tears. Jane\'s heart was also sour and she quickly gestures at the nurse. The nurse sighs sympathetically and pushes Maria\'s wheelchair out. As the door closes, silence once again falls upon Jane.

She falls to the ground all of a sudden, curling up in pain.

As the days pass, the symptoms gradually becomes obvious. Every time her mother comes over, she secretly clenches her teeth and pretends to be fine. But, every minute she smiles calmly, the sharp pain in her bone marrow gnaws at her body like a blanket of poisonous snakes.
