Chapter 2

Sean Qiao was silent as he tried to process the information. According to Shelley, this tragedy was an accident.

No. Even if it was an accident, even if George Qin had died, he could not forgive him. The feud between him and the Qin family will never be solved in this life.

Sean Qiao asked in a low voice, “How about the rest of his family? His wife and children?”

“George Qin’s wife is seriously injured and is still in danger. The doctor said that there is little hope that she would survive. The younger daughter was severely hurt. The eldest daughter wasn’t there.”

Looking at her brother, she added, “She flew in from abroad to deal with this matter.”

Shelley Qiao continued, “Uncle took advantage of your injury. He’s just made his move. Grandpa has given you an ultimatum, you’re supposed to marry and have children after you wake up. Only when you have a stable family background will you inherit the company.”

“I haven’t even died yet, but Uncle must be preparing for my funeral. Well, then. I’ll make sure all his hopes are shattered.”

“Is it really just an heir he wants? I can give that to him.”

After dark, Shelley left and Sean went out to for a walk.

As he passed the hospital park, the sound of a woman crying made him stop.

  ...

Vera Qin was standing in the hospital park. Her mother and sister were both hurt. Their family was in a very bad situation. But what really pushed her over the edge was her boyfriend abandoning her just like that. She was in the midst of a nervous breakdown.

Over and over, she muttered. “Why, why?”

She had no one left. No one was willing to help her.

The rain poured down in a torrent.

He came across her, a woman crying in the heavy rain.

  ...

There was no light in the room, it was dark and scary. Her heart felt uneasy as she struggled to remember how she had ended up in this room.

Where was she? Vera Qin sat up, and immediately felt dizzy. She couldn’t remember what happened.

All of a sudden, the dark bedroom door flew open. She began to tremble in fear.

From the silhouette, she could vaguely tell that it was a man. After he came in, he quickly closed the door and went directly to the bed.

It was set up according to his preference. He could see her sitting there, but he couldn’t see the woman’s face.

He didn’t want to know anything about this woman. As long as things were done smoothly, they won’t have anything to do with each other in the future. Now he only needs to get down to business.

“Take off your clothes and lie on the bed,” he commanded her.

  The man’s voice sounded cold.

“Haven’t you heard? Do it now.”

Vera was so frightened that she froze. Suddenly, her phone rang.

Seeing that the woman did not take any action, he started to lose his temper. Since he was paying for her services, he thought of her as his slave.

The ringing of the phone was a little frightening in this silent and dark environment, but when she saw the caller ID, a glimmer of hope was ignited in her heart.

She quickly answered the phone, but the other party did not give her a chance to speak.

“Vera, don’t you need money? I can give you what you need. We were together for quite some time, and you never let me touch you. Fly back here immediately and sleep with me. I can give you money for your mother’s medical treatment.”

His words shattered the newly-ignited hope in her heart.

  “Morris...”

“Don’t call my name, you aren’t worthy.”

Vera was saddened, and disgusted at the same time.

“Can you calm down and listen to my explanation. You judged me based on a few words from others. Do you think this is fair to me? Was it really true love, what we had between us? Could it be...”

Vera was struggling to maintain what little self-esteem she had left, but the caller didn’t care for her sentimental words.

“No need to explain. This is the only opportunity I give you. You only have the right to choose but not the right to explain.”

The only thing that humiliated her even more than Morris’s words, was that of the man in front of her. Vera‘s whole body trembled in anger. Her heart was so painful that she lost control.

She lashed out. “I’ve found a man, and you can’t match the amount he’s willing to pay me. It’s over between us, I hope she doesn’t end up cheating on you.”

In a fit of rage, Vera threw the phone into the corner. Angrily, she began to take off her clothes.

A thick layer of ice had formed in her heart.

After hearing her conversation, the man spoke. “If it’s not your first time, you’re not getting a penny.”

There was no end to it, it seemed. At every turn, someone was out to humiliate her. How could she live like this? As always, she was guilty by default. Nobody seemed to trust her.

“Try it, and then you’ll know.”
