Chapter 8

Vera was stunned. His words echoed Morris Chu’s words. Both men had accused her of acting and lying.

To these men, she was a goldigger.

The man put on his clothes, angrily walked to Vera‘s side, and suddenly snatched the child from her.

“I’ll take the child away. Get out, now.”

“Wait, give me some more time with him.”

Vera Qin blocked the man’s way, watching the crying panicked child.

“Sorry baby, I’m sorry. You must live a happy life and grow up healthy.”

  Tears rushed down her cheeks.

The man on one side frowned, his thin lips closed tightly.

Vera Qin quickly retrieved a kit from the bed and handed it to the man.

“Here are his medical records from when he was born. There is also a small gift I gave him.”

“Please raise him well, find him a good stepmother, and don’t let the stepmother mistreat him.”

“You think too much, he doesn’t have a stepmother, only a real mother.”

The man resolutely finished speaking, and walked away with the child in large strides, then stopped at the door.

“Abide by the contract and control yourself. Don’t make trouble for your child, don’t sleep around and dishonor your child.”

The man’s words were cold and merciless. Her heart ached even more.

The moment he closed the door, Vera couldn’t hold it in anymore. She fell to the ground and wept bitterly. She had just sold her most precious child for money. For money, even her dignity was trampled on.

  “I’m sorry... I’m sorry baby... Mommy’s sorry...”

The heart-piercing cry expressed her unwillingness.

Outside the door, the man’s footsteps were once again stopped as he listened to her weep. The child was also crying. He frowned and walked away quickly.

  ...

Four years later, the plane flew smoothly above the clouds, but a little boy sitting in the first class was a little fidgety.

  “Daddy.”

The little boy tentatively called the attention of the man who was asleep next to him.

  “Daddy.”

Seeing that the man did not respond, the boy gently nudged the man with his hand.

  The man woke up.

  “What?”

His voice was calm and restrained, but there was no warmth in it.

“Dad, I want to go to the bathroom.”

  The boy spoke timidly.

Sean Qiao glanced at the woman sitting on the other side of the boy. He saw that she was asleep, so he got up and took the little boy to the bathroom.

The boy seemed to be very independent, conveniently so for his father. Sean stood waiting outside the door.

In the first row of the economy class, a little girl of about four or five years old curiously looked out the window. The endless clouds were new to her.

“Mommy, the clouds are so pretty.”

The little girl’s skin was white and tender, and her small face was shaped like a goose egg. Her eyes were bright, her nose high and her mouth was shaped like a cupid’s bow. Her cheeks were cute and plump. She had a huge smile on her face.

  “Yes, the clouds are pretty.”

Her hair was tied back in a ponytail, just like her mother’s. She had bangs and was wearing a white cotton dress, while her mother was wearing a pair of jeans and a shirt.

Vera looked at the direction her daughter was pointing at. It was indeed a spectacular sight.

“Mommy, when we were on the ground, the clouds were moving. Why aren’t the clouds here moving?”

The little girl asked curiously in a soft voice.

“It’s not that it doesn’t move, it’s just that we can’t see it. Clouds are always floating with the wind.” Sean, who was standing outside the bathroom, was listening to their conversation.

That voice...it was gentle and beautiful. It reminded him of someone.

He frowned, then turned his head to look at who it was.

“Mummy, I can’t see the wind either. Where is the wind? Did it go home and take a nap?”

The little girl looked innocent. And a bit ignorant, too, he thought.

“Yes, Luna is the smartest. When the wind gets tired of blowing, it goes home to rest.”

Vera Qin smiled dotingly. Children are very straightforward, she thought.

“Mommy, there’s a little boy watching us over there.”

Luna suddenly turned her head and pointed at the father and son, standing at the door of the bathroom.

Vera looked at the direction of Luna’s fingers, and found herself facing the man. He had a very cold look in his eyes.

But the little boy standing next to him looked very warm and friendly.

The boy’s big eyes were wide and timid. He had a high nose, and eyebrows were black and thick. His eyelashes were curly. He wore a hemp-colored summer hat on his head, but it did not cover his dark hair.

Vera raised her eyes to look at the man next to the boy. They looked exactly the same.

Vera gave the boy a warm smile and waved at him.

“Dad, can I go there to play with the little girl?”

  The boy looked up expectantly.

“The plane is still flying, let’s go back to our seats.”

The man took the boy’s hand and was about to leave.
