chapter seven

I walked down the street to a coffee shop, Becky asked me to come over for a drink, i don't like the idea, but i don't have a choice either.

It's snowing today, the snow came quite late this year, even though the signs came early.

When i got to the shop, i took a seat beside the window, I love having a view of everything outside while sitting down.

A waitress walked up to me, she was wearing a white dress and black apron.

Her hair was done in a bun, and she held a menu card, smiling, like she was advertising a toothpaste brand.

" May i take your order ma'am?" she asked politely.

"Um.... could you come back later" i asked looking at my wristwatch.

Becky should be here already, i wonder what's taking her so long.

"I'm here!" Becky sat down opposite me, panting like she's been running Olympics.

"Could you try to be punctual for once?" i sighed and signaled the waitress to come to our table.

"I'm sorry, but you know i need to take my time while dressing up" she said, taking the menu card from the waitress and scanning through it quickly.

"Cauliflower cake and coffee " she said and turned to me, waiting for me to make mine.

"Green tea would do " i said rubbing my hands together.

It's really cold today, i wonder why i didn't come out with my overcoat.

"So, how's your fiance?" Becky asked, holding up her chin with her hands, as her eyes danced with excitement, this question is what sickens me the most.

"He's obviously fine " i replied sarcastically, trying to hide my anger.

"I'm glad " she said and i chuckled, I'm surprised she didn't understand i was only being sarcastic.

"So, how's your project?" i asked, trying to change the topic.

"Argh!, stressful " she said with a tired look.

"I'm glad I've finished mine " i said feeling proud of myself, it took me almost three months to finish that project, it was really sicky.

"So, have you guys picked a date for your wedding, when are we going shopping?" Becky asked and i rolled my eyes, i thought being his fiance would be a piece of cake, how on earth do i escape these questions.

" We're still debating on that" i replied as the waitress returned with our orders, how i love the scent of the herbal tea.

"Okay, make sure it's before Christmas Eve" Becky said excitedly, i wonder how she's going to feel when we call off the fake engagement.

"What color do you have in mind?, have you thought about purple?, gold or perhaps sea blue?"

"What's with all the questions, when we get to that bridge we'll cross it" i sipped the tea and let out a sigh, she's driving me crazy right now.

"Fine, i guess I'm going too far " Becky said smiling nervously, i wonder what's up with her today.

"Are you alright?" i asked

"Ofcourse, I'm just excited that my best friend is getting married soon" she said, and i saw nothing but sincerity in her eyes.

"I guess i'll have to disappoint you" i burbled as i felt my heart break, she doesn't deserve someone like me as friend, i can't even be honest with her, i just hope i can tell her the truth someday.

"What are you thinking about" Becky asked snapping me out of my thoughts.

"Nothing" i replied taking the remaining tea for in a gulp.

"Woah girl, you look tensed" she giggled.

"It's the wedding stuff" i replied, ofcourse, this whole marriage stuff is driving me nuts, I don't think i might ever want to get married in the future, cos the pressure is too much.

"I understand girl, i felt same way when....., nevermind" she said incessantly, looking down at her glass hills.

Wait, has she been engaged before?, if she has then she'll certainly be heartbroken after i break up with Edward, i don't want to hurt her with my foolish decisions, what do i do?, it's getting more complicated as days roll by.

"Four months, two weeks and six days" i assured myself, after that everything will return to normal.

I mean they should, I'm not sure i can handle what's coming after all of this.

" Don't let me spoil the fun" she said, pinching my cheeks playfully.

"You're mysterious" i slapped her hand away, taking a bite from her cake.

"How dare you...."

"Sir, you have a guest " his secretary said as he typed endlessly, Edward had been on a project for months now, it was worth billions, he surely needed such an amount.

Himself and his manager had been preparing the movie site.

He was shooting a new movie, if it happens to hit the world, it would be very good for his company, he was already indebted and he signed his house as collateral.

If he doesn't get the exact amount of money, he would end up in the streets, a homeless stray, just like before.

"Tell the person to come in " he said not taking his gaze off the computer.

"Yes sir " the secretary left with a bow.

"... where's my big boy " a familiar voice said and Edward froze, his heart skip a beat. It sounded like his mother, he was still very surprised because she'd never visited him during work hours or was his time different from hers.

"Mom??" he called as she walked in with three shopping bags.

"Happy birthday baby boy" she said pulling him into a warm embrace.

"Thanks" Edward said, he had completely forgotten it was his birthday.

"Okay, i need to go home and prepare something delicious" she said excitedly. "I have a surprise"

"Me too, i think my surprise will be bigger" he said, he was sure that his entire family will be glad to see Maxine.

" Okay then, be back by four" she said and left hurriedly, her son being a year older was exciting but she was also anxious about the surprise.
