Chapter Four - The new comer -

Unknown POV

As I drive into the gates of the pack school leaning over my steering wheel slightly to look around as I do. It seems smallish and could use some TLC but all in all, letting out a soft sigh it's another school, another pack, another introduction. I hated the new kid speech I was told to give at every school I went to, in every class I had on the first day. This is school, four in two years. I don't know why we keep moving around or moving packs but my mother's a healer and my father a Gamma ranked wolf. So at least we get it a little easier when we transition into the packs, and we are welcomed.

Sitting in my thoughts I smelt something that now has my attention and I'm on high alert. Something that smelled and seemed off but familiar. Like I've spelt it before but can't place when and where I've smelt it and what it is, just that I know it's dangerous. If that makes sense. It wasn't the normal smell of different wolves and sweat and perfume. No. It was like drying seaweed and the ocean after a hurricane mixed with the smell, coal has after it's been burnt, I look around and see no one close enough to be the source of the smell.

I almost jumped out of my skin, when I looked back out the windscreen. Someone was standing there. It was like they appeared out of thin air. I'm gripping my steering wheel so tight right now, my knuckles have gone white and I can feel the circulation being cut off to my fingers. I went from trying to think of what could make that smell, to who the heck this person is that just poof and vola, is in front of my car. He walked around the front of the car and up the driver's side. He stopped when he reached my window.

He tapped on the window making me jump slightly again. Seriously man, what the fuck is wrong with you right now, so jumpy, I said to myself. Being new and my first day I know no-one, and I kind of like it that way. Though I seem outspoken and confident, I'm shy and awkward. I put on a facade, so I don't have to do the friend's thing outside of school. I don't trust people, which my father says is going to be my downfall, but my mother says it's a good trait to have and don't change.

I wind down the window a few inches, just enough to hear the person standing on the other side. As I lowered the window he bent down, trying to lean on the windowsill of the car. I looked at him with a, what I thought was my best, hey was sup look. Turns out my, hey was sup look, is more like, I shitmyself look judging by the laugh I'm hearing right now from the person outside my window.

"Hey, I'm Ricky, nice to meet you, and you are"? He said while still laughing as he went to offer his hand to shake through the tiny gap in the window.

Not very successfully but A for effort I suppose. I chuckle inwardly. I was jumpy because of this person. I wound the window down just a little more so I could shake his hand and gave him a little smile trying to ease my nerves. I said I don't trust anyone, especially random people that pop up like daisies out of nowhere.

"I'm Loclyn or Locy as most back home call me, nice to meet you too" I greeted him.

"Well, being your first day Locy I'll show you around and take you to your first class"! Ricky said.

"How do you know I'm not from here" I questioned.

"Seriously man, I've seen you before and the way you were looking around on edge in your car says it all, now let's go, hop out" he replied.

While it was a nice gesture, something had me on edge with him and I'm not sure why. Trying not to be obvious I just smiled and nodded.

"This way" Ricky said, gesturing for me to get out of the car.

"Oh and show me your timetable for today, so I don't make you late." he said quickly, stepping forward again and reaching into the car, grabbing it from me as I pulled it out of my pocket while still sitting in my seat.

"Between you and me some of the teachers here are still too old fashioned when it comes to being tardy"! He started with a giggle shaking his head As he stepped back again.

I had to have a little chuckle at that too. He was right. My old school, if you were late even by a minute it was detention. I swear that the detention teacher would go into the back room, hit the munchie maker then come back out and just eat. The munchies hit that bloke hard. His weight told a different story though. I giggled inwardly at the memory.

Ricky stepped back a bit, allowing me room to get out. As I stepped out of the car, he gave back my timetable and grunted a little. Like he was annoyed with the classes I have. We walked for about five minutes, after walking through the front doors to the school, we continued to walk along the corridors with him telling me which classes are which and what subjects and teachers in what direction and where. Then he led me to the cafeteria.

"This is where you'll find me most of the day today if you need anything or can't remember anything just come here and find me ok."! He said as he was turning around and walking off to the far back corner where I saw a group of people sitting.

They look out of place here but maybe they're just those, to cool for school kids. One of them I recognised as Erica the Alpha's daughter. My parents and I met her last week when we came to have our sit down with the Alpha and the Luna to ask if we may join this pack.

I was snapped out of my thoughts by the bell. Off to my first class which was Maths. Ugg, not my strong point but I wasn't too bad at Maths either. As I made it to my first class I managed to slip under the radar. So, making the newcomer speech didn't happen. I was relieved.

The first two classes went quickly, this one seemed to frag out and I have one more class after this one, plus it wasn't anything I haven't already learnt. I finished my work before everyone else so I put my head on my desk and stared out the window trying not to think so I could get a little sleep. I had the nightmare like always last night, the smell today, the odd group of students and the weirdest student of them all. Moving packs again. My birthday is in a month. So many thoughts and no clear understanding for any of them. I sighed out aloud.

Same dream I always have. It always leaves me lying awake in a pool of sweat, heart racing and head pounding. Every year, same day, same time. I need answers to this. It was the thought at the front of my mind.

I closed my eyes and slowly sleep, captured me. I woke to the bell signalling the end of the period and as I sat my eyes and mind still blurry and groggy, I caught the scent again. It was faint but it was there. I flicked my head around rubbing my eyes trying to catch where it was coming from or who, but I didn't find the source. Damn it, I sighed heavily. I have a bad feeling about this place.
