Chapter 2

Kyle's POV

"I don't understand, you said a pack member was in trouble. If I had known it was this thing, I wouldn't have got out of bed!"

I was pissed. They really woke me up screaming a pack member was getting attacked just to save this whore? Ugh, I would have to teach them to never disturb me if it's about her, ever. If she wasn't such a good cook I would have already killed this one.

Blake, my Beta decided to speak up first, "We didn't know who was being attacked, just that rogue's had crossed the territory line and were after someone."

We were standing in the hallway of the infirmary, my men had brought her to the pack doctor after finding her unconscious and wounded. He was right like usual, even if I wouldn't have saved her myself, I still would have killed the rogues.

"Let her rest I guess; find someone else to cook breakfast this morning. I'm going home to shower." As I turned around and left, I could hear them start to mumble.

Blake's POV

Watching Kyle walk away in nothing but his sweatpants I wondered if he was ever going to be the Kyle he used to be. The friend I grew up with. He never used to hurt anyone and for some reason Zoey tipped him over the edge. He's become somebody I don't know.

I find a chair and take a seat in the hallway to wait to hear from the pack doctor. Kyle may not care about everyone in his pack but I do. Zoey may just be an Omega, a slave girl, however she is still a member of this pack and deserves treatment as such. I look around and notice some of the warriors still standing around talking. So I tell them to go back to their posts, and double up on guards until we figure out this rogue situation; and how they crossed the border.

Leaning against the wall, I must have fallen asleep. It seemed like no time had passed when the doctor woke me up.

"Blake, go home and rest. She is stable but will need to stay for a few days to recover. She hasn't shifted yet and doesn't heal as fast as we do."

Standing up and stretching I realized the sun was setting. How long have I been asleep?

"Is she awake? I have a few questions I would like to ask her." I ask while yawning.

"No, she's still unconscious, I can't give a time line on when she will come to. She had it pretty rough out there tonight. She's lucky to be alive." he was trying to be quiet as the walkway was nowhere near empty.

"Link me when she wakes please." I started waking away but turned around.

"Can I see her for a moment."

He looked a little shocked I asked, but agreed.

As I enter the room I can see all the machines, and hear them pumping medicine through her veins. Walking over, I look down at her. Why is she so hated? Even with the bruising, stitches in her face, and all the bandages; I can still see her beauty. Long, dark, raven black hair spread across the pillow. Dark eye lashes touching her bruised cheeks, she still might be the most gorgeous woman I've ever laid eyes on. Why do they hate her so? The whole pack treats her worse than rogue's; I'll never fully understand why. Basically, her whole body is covered in bandages the only skin you can see is her face.

"What happened to you Zoey? Why do they hate you so much?" I know she won't answer me but I need to know.

Maybe, just maybe, there's more to this story and I'm gonna find out what.

Touching her shoulder, I huff and walk out. I came to this pack 6 years ago, at the age of 15, to start training as their Beta. They had just been through a huge war and lost most of their pack members. Including the Beta's whole family. Being an Alpha's son but not his first, I was allowed to decide to stay in my pack or join another and take over as a Beta. My father talked me into trying to help the Blue Lake pack so I decided I would come here. Since I've been here though, I can understand why they went to war. They treat the lower level wolves as slaves and for some reason, picked Zoey to be their own personal punching bag and I've had enough. Either Kyle is gonna set some new ground rules or I am! They all respect me and show me kindness, unlike Kyle. I get the respect I give and it shows as I'm walking back to the pack house. Everyone is out considering it's about dinner time and heading to the pack house for Sunday's pack dinner.

"Hi Blake."

"Hey man."

Women bow their heads in a show of respect to me as men greet me.

I nod and acknowledge them all. I turn and walk into the pack house. The smell of the food hit me and usually my belly starts growling but not today. I'm not hungry and couldn't eat if I wanted to. I have too much on my mind. Walking upstairs, I decide to shower and try to get some rest while I wait to hear from the Pack doctor.
