Richie spoke to my father and since it was so common for me to be here or at Canyon Ridge, my parents weren’t bothered when Cayd drove me home to pack clothes for the week. “Let’s stop by and have dinner with Cohen and Clint.” He says as we get back into the car. Emlyn’s been in my packhouse for four days. Four glorious days. I’ve snuck her into my room every night. She's my new favorite addiction and while having her here is distracting, I know that once she’s gone, it will be much harder. We’re currently at training. I’ve always run afternoon training, so it was a simple transition to just add the morning training into my schedule for now. Once Jackson is official, he can run one training and I’ll run the other. Today, I have to keep refocusing my attention away from Emlyn. Every daughter of a Guardian is an amazing warrior. When I walk back into the packhouse, Leana and Lily rush to me.“Are you okay Emlyn. I’m so sorry. You know how our brothers are.” Leana says, pulling me into a hug.“I do. And you’d think that they would also know how we are by now.”“What did he say?” Lily asks, pulling us into a private room.I know they are just concerned about me. They are as much my sisters as Riley is. “Exactly what you’d expect. ‘I’m an Alpha. It’s been a year since I realized that Emlyn was my mate. When’s she’s here, everything in my world feels right. When she’s gone, no matter how much work I have, my days are long and always feel dreary. Thankfully, between the three packs, there are a lot of birthdays and celebrations so I get to see her on the off weeks and weekends. After I “started” the new process of having the visiting Guardians stay in our packhouse, Emlyn spent every third week at Canyon Ridge. That put her closer to my pack lands than if she were in her own pack. My brilliant mate had the idea to meet at the canyon in between the packs when she stayed there. It wasn’t perfect, but it helped to keep me and Finley from going out of our minds. I honestly don’t know where we’ve had sex more often, my bedroom or the forest. I’m so excited to see my brother take his oath as Alpha tomorrow. Mom, Riley, Amber, our Beta female and I have been preparing all week. Just like Richie’s inauguration, this one will host several ranked members from neighboring packs. Therefore, we’ve had to make sure there is plenty of room in the packhouse, food in reserves and that the decorations and music are prepared for a huge party. There’s a lot of pomp and circumstance for any Alpha ceremony and Emerson’s is no different. We spend the day welcoming our guests and showing them to their rooms, Riley and I acting as perfect hostesses. I suffer my share of interested Alphas trying to gain my affection and attention. None of them compare to my boyfriend. I can’t wait to see Richie. A week feels so long since I’ve seen him. I’ve gotten used to seeing him at least every couple of days. It’s so hard to let Emlyn go as I walk into the fray of the neighboring packs. I know exactly what to expect and sure enough, she-wolves immediately surround us. At least at my ceremony, I had a reason to speak to other Alphas and make arrangements for meetings. Now, I’m just the unmated visiting Alpha that apparently needs a bed-warmer while I’m here, at least according to the brazen she-wolf that just whispered that in my ear. I stop listening to her, watching my mate as she walks out, laughing with Cohen and Clint as she effortlessly guides them through the throng of people over to Emerson and introduces them to the Alphas talking with him. I see her side-eye glance in my direction, and it takes a minute for me to realize the scowl on her face is because the she-wolf beside me has possessively put her hand on my arm. I was so distracted by my mate, I hadn’t even noticed. ‘Get her off our arm before I do.’ Finley snarls in my head. Not happy with the look Emlyn just shot our way.
Shattered Bonds Chapter 13: Emlyn
While I’m thrilled to have Richie here for the weekend, given the occasion, it’s hard to find time together. Everyone wants to speak to him, she-wolves want to dance with him or flirt with him and I, of course, am playing the perfect hostess. It makes it easier with him having told me earlier that he loves me. It’s the first time he’s ever said it out loud. He shows me in little ways, all the time, but he’s never said the words. Until today. There are plenty of unmated males here as well, but I have a full contingent of ‘brothers’, blood or otherwise, watching over me, scaring them off. With Lily and Leana gone, Riley and I are the most eligible of the Guardians in attendance. The twins and Reagan are still young, and Alpha Liam is keeping them close to him, just in case. The Alpha discussion of the evening centered around the rogue attacks that have been increasing. Everyone has had at least one attack. I take that back, our three packs have had one attack, the other packs have been attacked multiple times in the past year. Everyone said the same thing I noticed when we were attacked nearly a year ago. The rogues are more structured in their attacks and more skilled in their fighting than they should be. I was never able to get anything from the two in my cells. Rik and Eli were only able to get one each to interrogate and they didn’t get anything either. It was almost as if they didn’t know anything. No one had any answers, and it was decided that it would be brought to the council for discussion and next steps. After nearly getting caught in the bathroom, I was finally able to get my mate to sneak away back to the second packhouse.
