"You are not alone, Mrs. Romano," I'm just saying it again in case you didn't hear me.

I wiped my tears and took in a deep breath, turning to face him. "Are you spying on me?"

He chuckled and shook his head. "Why in the world would I spy on my wife? That's ridiculous," he said in a casual tone.

"I don't know, you tell me," I shrugged my shoulders. His eyes landed on my bag, and I knew he was going to ask me about it.

"I don't mean to meddle in your business, but where are you going to stay, and most importantly, why did they allow you to leave the house late at night? I think it would have been better if they let you leave in the morning."

I averted my gaze from him. "It's nothing, and I have a place I'm going to," I said rather confidently.

"Is that so? Well, I don't mind dropping you wherever it is you are going."

"No, I will be fine on my own," I said in a stern tone.

He nodded and opened his car door. "Okay, if you say so. Sadly, I have to go. I have to attend this important dinne
