NATHAN

I couldn't believe what I was seeing. Eduardo was standing in front of my parents' house, laughing as if he didn't have a care in the world. I approached him cautiously, trying to keep my anger in check.

"What the hell are you doing here?" I demanded, my voice barely above a whisper.

Eduardo turned to face me, his smile fading slightly as he saw the anger in my eyes. "Oh, Nathan," he said, his voice dripping with false innocence. "I was just passing by and saw this old house. I got curious, you know?"

I knew he was lying, of course. Eduardo wasn't the type to just stumble upon something and get curious. He was always looking for an angle, always trying to find a way to benefit himself.

But I couldn't let him know that I was onto him. I needed him to believe that we were alike, that we shared the same values and goals.

I forced a smile and tried to keep my voice even. "Yeah, I get it. Old houses can be fascinating," I said.
