Dialing his number, my heart fluttered with anticipation. Each ring felt like a countdown, bringing me closer to the moment when I would hear Nathan's voice on the other end of the line.

"Hello,"

"Nathan, hey it's Chloe," I mumbled. "I hope I'm not interrupting anything, but I wanted to ask how the case with Eduardo is going."

There was a brief pause and a lot of shuffling before Nathan responded, his voice tinged with weariness and a drunken edge. "Oh yeah! That bastard's in jail. Messed with the wrong person he did. He'll be gone soon and we can all live our lives in peace."

A wave of relief washed over me, knowing that progress was being made. Eduardo's arrest meant he was no longer capable of hurting me or Adele. At least one threat had been taken care of.

"Thats great news," I replied.

Nathan chuckled. "Yeah it is. Thank you, Chloe. We couldn't have done this without you."

"Mhmm, might as well admit that you need me," I teased and earned a wistful laugh from him.
