The weight of uncertainty hung heavy in the air as I sat alone in our dimly lit living room, the soft glow of the lamp casting long shadows across the walls. Damien had been acting strangely lately, his once warm demeanor replaced by an air of tension and secrecy that left me feeling unsettled.
