Chapter 53: Am I Safe At Last

Perhaps I was too tired. No matter how hard I struggled to stay awake, I still fell asleep sitting in the chair. When I woke up, I found myself lying on a wide bed with white bedsheets and a thin quilt covering my body. It made me panic for a moment. I lifted the thin blanket and looked inside fearfully, afraid I would see my clothes in a mess.

It was a huge relief to see that I was fully dressed, and my brain started working again. It was already dark outside. Under the light of the street lamp, I saw I was in a big bedroom. There was a wardrobe and a bathroom. Moreover, I could tell from the layout that I was not in a hotel.

"Where am I?"

The light from outside slipped through the gap in the door. I could vaguely hear someone whispering. I stepped on the soft carpet barefoot. The sound outside the door was very soft, and I could only hear a little intermittently.
