Chapter 27

-It doesn't matter. But I need to know why you really came, that thing about the daughter with cancer is no longer credible.

Courtney laughs.

"Really, Lex?" Cancer? Poor Molly.

"Yes, I know, it was the first thing that occurred to me," he laughs softly and looks at me. If I have a daughter and she's eight, but she doesn't have cancer, I'm sorry. The truth is that I have issues to resolve with my brothers and since no one deigned to answer my calls I had to come.

"What business?"

"Personal things, precious, I can't tell you." He shares a look with Courtney. Obviously she knows.

"Well, I'll still find out."

- How persistent.

I smile at her and she returns it to me. This time, it doesn't look fake.

"So you, Trevor, and Ryder are little brothers?"

He shakes his head after taking a bite of his sandwich. He takes his time eating and responding.

—They are my brothers, but among themselves they are not brothers.

My face must be a funny story because Courtney next to me laughs looking at me.
