In a coma

The ringing of the phone jolted him from sleep. He opened his eyes slowly and rubbed his palm over his face tiredly. Looking at the caller ID, he became curious as he saw Alex.

"Hey," he called grumpily on picking the call.

"Amos, where are you?" Her anxious voice sounded from the phone.

He sat up right on hearing her anxious teary voice. There was noise all over the phone and he couldn't hear her clearly any longer.

"Alex.. Alex, what's going on?" He asked immediately.

"Amos, Nat was involved in an accident!" Alex cried from the phone.

"What!!" He exclaimed, springing up from the bed.

"No..no..this is not happening!" He cried with his body trembling visibly.

"You need to come right to the hospital where I birthed Junior," she said and hung up immediately.

The phone dropped slowly from his hands and landed on the bed. He stood transfixed for a moment with his eyes staring at space.
