Chapter 9

Mr. Ferguson muttered something under his breath and then turned to Cherry. He ordered her to get Avelina from upstairs, and Cherry nodded. She made her way upstairs toward Avelina’s room, and once she got there, she pushed the door open.

       "Miss Avelina," she called.

Avelina, who stood by the mirror staring at herself, turned her head to look at her.

       "What is it?" she questioned.

"Your father requests your presence downstairs. Please come with me," she replied with an indifferent expression on her face. Avelina followed behind her, and before they could reach the elevator, they came face to face with Lady Flora, who had an arrogant expression as always.

"Take the stairs. I don't want her filthy body near me," she immediately ordered, and Cherry bit her lower lip. She slowly turned around to look at Avelina.

"Please, let’s take the stairs," she said to her, but Avelina who was obviously unwilling looked at Lady Flora from head to toe with disgust in her eyes. She walked past her and proceeded into the elevator. She clicked the buttons, and both Lady Flora and Cherry watched as the door of the elevator shut. Lady Flora’s eyes twitched furiously in rage, and her hands balled into tight fists. She turned around and stormed off to walk down the stairs.

The elevator arrived downstairs and once the door was pushed open, Avelina stepped out. She strolled towards the living room, and the instant she stepped in, her body halted the moment her eyes fell on Lucian. She gaped at him, and Lucian lifted his head, only for his green eyes to meet her gray ones. They stared at each other, and Avelina’s pupils twitched furiously.

"You..." she whispered under her breath.

Lucian, who couldn’t believe the condition he was seeing her in, shifted his gaze to Mr. Ferguson.

"Why... is she in this condition?" he questioned.

Mr. Ferguson, who couldn’t care less, crossed his legs and folded his arms. "She got into an accident," he replied.

"Accident?" Lucian chuckled softly, already knowing what a huge lie it was. "I wonder what sort of accident she got into for her to be in this condition. I mean, she was perfectly fine the last time I saw her." He smiled as he spoke.

Mr. Ferguson, who had nothing more to say and did not feel the need to explain himself, uttered no more words. Lucian glanced at Avelina, who was still gazing at him, and stood up from the sofa. He handed his phone over to Leon and slowly walked towards her.

He arrived before her and only stopped once they were two inches apart. He stared down at her and Avelina, whom he was quite taller than lifted her head to gaze up at him. Her height was around that of his shoulders. They looked at each other, and everyone within the room gaped at them intently, unable to anticipate what would happen next.

Lucian unhurriedly reached out his hand, and ever so gently, he held onto her cheek and grazed her skin with his thumb. Confused and in shock as to what he was doing, Avelina stood still, unmoving.

"Are you in pain?" he asked in a soft voice, and unbeknownst to Avelina, two drops of tears instantly slipped from her eyes, one slipping onto Lucian’s hand. The moment her tears melted into his skin, an unexpected spark electrified through his hand, spreading across his entire body, and he immediately went still. His eyes widened as his whole body trembled and his heart began to beat rapidly, causing his body to quiver even more furiously.

Avelina, who couldn’t understand why he was quivering, reached to grab his hand that held her cheek, but the moment she touched him, she underwent the same reaction, causing her to jolt in shock. "What was that?" Her heart hastily raced, and she quickly reached to clutch her pounding chest.

Lucian, who was still in fright, stood, his eyes never leaving hers. How long has it been? A hundred and sixty years, and he never thought that he would one day find his mate. He was told it was impossible. He was even deemed unworthy of being the king of the Lycans at some point because he was incapable of having a mate!

Becoming the king of Lycans was only possible because of the fact that he was strong. His strength was the only reason he came to rule his kind. So how? Why the spark now? Why is he only finding his mate now? And above all, a human. he thought, and his eyes slightly watered up.

"My mate," he whispered under his breath and moved closer to Avelina, who was looking at him in confusion. He gently grabbed her wrist and pulled her into a hug. He embraced her so tightly as though he had just met someone he had lost. He caressed her hair and Avelina, who was heavily perplexed, fluttered her eyes in bewilderment.

What exactly was going on? At this point, she can't even tell if she is dreaming or not.

Everyone within the room, including Lady Flora, who had just arrived downstairs, gazed at them in shock, confused as to what was going on. Roselia’s eyes widened so deeply to the point that it felt as though they would pop out of their sockets. Mr. Ferguson, who was flabbergasted as well, having never thought that things would go this way, looked at them in disbelief.

"I have made my decision, Ferguson." Lucian suddenly began, still hugging Avelina. "I will marry her. In fact, the wedding will take place tomorrow. I will pay for everything," he stated that with his arm still wrapped around her.

"M-marry? W-wedding? What do you mean?" Avelina, who was really perplexed at this point, asked with a deep frown on her face.

"We are getting married," Lucian whispered into her ears, and almost immediately, she furiously pushed him away, deep rage in her eyes.

"I am not going to marry you!"
