48. Doing What Feels Right

After talking with Taesha and convincing her to stay another day, Dexter went to his mother's house that afternoon. As usual, he checked to make sure his father wasn't home. He needed private time to tie up loose ends from a couple of nights ago at Gamma's house. However, he agreed to keep quiet about what was happening to him and not tell Taesha. It didn't feel right to him, and he hated that dinner with his family didn’t go the way he had planned. The more he thought about his mother’s reaction, how she dismissed Taesha and what she had requested of him. It made him upset and depressed that his mother couldn’t be happy for him.

“Mom, I thought you, of all people, would be happy and thrilled for me, I don’t understand, and I see I was wrong.”

“No, I am happy for you. But, Dexter, you are my only son! And as your mother, all I want is the best for you. But I have to look out for you and my future grandchildren. I don't want them to suffer.”
