ISABELLE’S POV I could not believe what my eyes are seeing. This is not possible. Now I get it. This all was a dream because he cannot be here. I blink my eyes repeatedly but he is still standing in front of me. I did not wake up. It means this is reality. How can this be possible? How can he be here? Is fate playing with me again? It did not take me even a second to recognize him. How can I forget him? He can't be here. Why is he here in this palace? I thought Robert had escaped with the other villagers then how is he here? Only he is the one who can answer my questions. He has not looked my way even once. He is busy talking with Ivy. “Robert! What are you doing here?” I ask him and gain his attention. He looks toward me and his eyes become wide with surprise. He did not know that I was here. He is as shocked as I am to see him here. I did not know that I was going to meet him. I had thought that I would never be able to meet him again. “Belle, is this you?”. He asks me unsure. I
ISABELLE’S POV Suddenly the cart stops and I become worried. Why did it stop? We can't reach the town so soon. From what I remember, the town is quite far from the palace. What made the man stop the cart? I pray to God that it starts moving again. “Why have you not opened the gates? You seem to be new here. Open the gates so that we can go”. I hear the man’s voice. The gates did not open? Why? This means that we are still within the palace’s boundary. “I am not new. I am Barden, the head of all the soldiers who are appointed for the security of the palace’s boundary. The king has given me this position before leaving. The gates will not open unless we have checked the carts”. The man whose name is Barden speaks loudly. His voice held authority and he seemed a pretty serious man. The thing which terrified me was his words. He will not open the gates without checking. If he does the checking then he will find me. The king will never forgive me for this. I will not be able to leave th
ISABELLE’S POV Lillian quickly comes towards us. She becomes angrier when she sees me beside Barden. She glares at me and I look at her while crying. Suddenly, a look of horror crossed her features when her eyes fell on my arm which was in the soldier’s grip. “Leave her arm right now. You cannot touch her. She belongs to the king and is very special to him. The king will cut your hand if he gets to know that you touched her”. She says to the soldier angrily and he immediately leaves my arm. He is looking at me with shock as if he just got to know that he has done a sin. “I did not know that she was someone special to the king. If I had known then I would have not touched her. I thought that she is a random slave. I was checking the carts when I found her in one of them. She was hiding between the wine barrels. I think she was trying to escape”. Barden tells Lillian quickly. Lillian comes toward me angrily. “I will talk with you later, Isabelle. You have welcomed death for yourself
ISABELLE’S POV “No please. Forgive me. Don’t do this with me, your majesty”. I beg while crying hysterically. I look around me towards the dark walls. There is no way to go. There is no one to help me and save me from this cruelty either. The king is standing in front of me angrily. His eyes have turned a different, darker shade than usual because of anger. I back away as he takes steps closer to me. He is furious at what I had done. His eyes are looking at me with rage. His whole demeanor is screaming how much he is angry. “This is what you deserve”. The king says as he is coming towards me with a big sharp dagger in his hand. The sharp silver dagger is making me more scared. My heart is beating rapidly like never before. His eyes are murderous. I take steps backward but stop when my back touches something hard. I look behind and see that now there is no place to go. No way to run and no way to hide. The king smiles evilly and takes steps toward me. “Your majesty, please, don’t b
ERIC’S POV “What is it?” I ask Barden. “My king, everything was fine. Nothing unusual happened and we checked everything that entered and left the palace. But, a lady from the harem tried to escape from the palace-” Barden was speaking but I stopped him with a gesture of my hand. At this moment I am not in the mood to hear about the girls of the harem. I am tired and don’t want to hear about the escape attempt of a slave. Lillian is appointed as the head to deal with all the matters like this. “I don’t want to hear about any of this right now. You can leave”. I order him and pick up the unopened letters placed on my table. These letters are sent by the kings of other kingdoms. I look up towards Barden who has not left. He seems to be in deep thought and hesitant. I raise a brow at him. “But, your majesty. The girl-”. He again started to speak about that girl but I cut him with a gesture before he could complete his sentence. I thought that this time he wanted to tell me about some
ISABELLE’S POV “Please open the door! I beg you. I cannot stay here anymore. Please let me out! Help me! There is so much darkness here! Help!”. I shout as I bang on the door with my fist. I use my full force to bang on the door with the hope that someone will hear the sound of my banging and will come to help me. I have been doing it for such a long time that now my hands are hurting. I don’t know how much time has passed. My throat is dry and it hurts because of shouting for help. My hands are red and I feel like I don’t have any energy left inside me anymore. I am hungry and thirsty. My body is tired and aches because of sitting for such a long time. I look around me and don’t see anything. There is darkness all around me. I had found the door with quite a difficulty. I feel like I have become blind. This darkness has started to creep me out. The never-ending silence is making me insane. I want to hear the voice of someone else. I am sick and tired of this loneliness. This loneli
ISABELLE’S POV The king leaves my neck and pushes me towards the floor. I put my hand on my neck as I try to inhale as much air as I can. Now my neck is in pain too. My breathing is irregular along with the beating of my heart. “I wanted to punish you for doing this but I want to be generous to you because I love you. I am going to give you two options, Isabelle. You can choose only one of them. I have thought about this a lot and now I think I can be this generous to the woman I love. It is your choice which you want to choose”. I look towards the king with my blurry vision. I cannot see his face clearly because of the tears. I wipe my eyes so that I can see him clearly. He is going to give me two options. I am surprised that he even thought to give me a choice. He is a cruel king then how can he be generous? I am sure that I will dislike both options but still, I have this tiniest bit of hope that maybe one option proves to be in my favor. “The first option is that you tell me t
ISABELLE’S POV “Why? Why this cruelty, my king”. I ask the king in a low voice. Fear has gripped my insides so tightly that now even my voice is coming so low. The king does not look at me but continues to look forward at the sand. “This is not cruelty, Isabelle. This is your punishment for trying to escape me and you have chosen this yourself in exchange for the life of those who helped you to escape. I told you numerous times that you should forget about your village and accept this life but you did not listen. No worries, I am sure that after this punishment you will never think of escaping me”. The king tells me in a cold tone. He looks toward me and I see only no mercy or kindness in his eyes. He puts a hand on the side of my face in a compassionate manner. “Now my dear love, walk on this hot and burning sand with the same feet with which you had walked outside the palace and towards the stable”. The king orders me coldly. His eyes are void of any emotion and look like two sou
