Immortal Wolves

"But our wolves were destined mates, Melvin." Jennie insisted. "Perhaps what everyone told about you was a mistake. That you are one of those wolves who will uphold the written rules of our kind. Now I know that you're not."

Jennie's face fell, and I felt a pang of guilt in my heart when her tears even dropped to her cheeks. I knew she valued such werewolf traditions, but it was not something my wolf could reciprocate.

But before I could say anything else, we heard a weird sound coming from above us. It was enough to make the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end.

Jennie suddenly noticed something above us. "Do you hear that?" she asked me frantically.

"Hear what?" I asked, confused and panicked, then followed the point of her eyes.

"There! Right above us!" she hissed, pointing upwards. "My wolf sensed danger in one of the rooms above us."

We were in the middle of the elevator, with no way of reaching the top except by the stairs or pressing a number f
