The wait was agonizing, but it was worth it. When Hazel stirs and asks the doctor to look again to see if he can tell the sex of the baby, he speaks loud and clear.
"It's a boy!”
I jump out of my chair with my fists clenched in celebration. It's a boy! My baby boy!
"Yeah! Yeah!" I can hardly contain myself.
"A boy, love!”
Hazel cries and I confess that I'm almost crying too, after all, it's not every day that you get news like this.
"Congratulations to you both. A healthy baby boy! As soon as I send you the printed results of the ultrasound, I'll choose the probable date of delivery.”
I'm very grateful to this gynecologist and obstetrician, but my son will be born in London. He'll be an Englishman like his mother and father. And we can't fail there.
