CHAPTER TWENTY SIX.

-CHAPTER 26-

A shocked gasp left me as I unintentionally pushed back the maid, causing her to hit her head on the wall. She winced in pain, and I barely muttered a sorry before I got to the door. I turned back instinctively again, intent on finding out who had done this.

"And who gave you the order?" I asked. She was stuttering as she replied, still cradling her head. "O- one of the guards told us everything. He said it was a warning, an order from above. And... that... anyone who dared to break this order would be punished severely, in other terms, death. So, my lady, I am in danger speaking to you right now." She finished, still whimpering like a scared dog.

I heard footsteps outside, one of the maids was approaching. There wasn't a doubt that they liked to talk too much, and one of them might end up snitching on her. I grabbed the bolts and locked it.
