Chapter 24Aurora's POV I sank onto the bed, as my eyes took notice of the black marbled tiles that had blood and shards of glasses spluttered on it. If he lost so much blood as this, I doubted if Antonio would ever make it alive. Even though I was happy that she'd taken the bull by the horn and tried to end the misery that she had faced since she married him, I wasn't sure that Matteo would take things lightly with her. "How did it happen? Tell me everything, and where is your husband right now?" She sighed and palmed her forehead. "He's at a private hospital that belongs to our family doctor presently. He knows the Capo so I might be summoned any time soon," I checked my phone for Matteo's message. Get out of there. That woman is a murderer. I gasped at his message and covered my palmed my lips. "Antonio is dead. Matteo just sent me a message," I informed her. She laughed hysterically and shrugged without remorse, then sank onto floor and rested at the edge of the bed. "It
Chapter 25Matteo's POV Aurora stared at me, her eyes pleading that I become lenient with my decision but I couldn't allow her to change my mind in the presence of everyone. "Take her out of here," I ordered and stormed out of the room. She followed me down the stairs till we got to the car. "Matteo, please you have to listen to me. Her husband tried to kill her because she didn't tell him what I said to her yesterday. It was self defense," She cried. I snorted, "Self defense, you say? That woman almost killed one of my underbosses. Do you expect me to let her go just because she has been having issues with her husband?". Her expression dimmed as she stared at me with a surprised look, but I couldn't blame her because my actions surprised me. I'd never liked Antonio from the beginning because of how rebellious he was sometimes, but he was loyal. "So it's right for you to kill her when you know that she had always been the victim? What happened to the strong dislike you had for A
Chapter 26Aurora's POV"Are you still hell bent on killing Giselle?" I asked Matteo while he sat at the edge of his bed. He slanted me a surprised look and reverted his attention to his phone which irked me because someone's life was under threat. "What I do with her life is none of your business." He replied curtly and dropped his phone, heading towards the wardrobe. He totally ignored me as I fought hard within myself to finalise my decision. "It's my business because that woman is innocent and I won't allow an innocent person to die again. Not if I can prevent it from happening." I growled and nearly slapped myself for almost talking about my parents to him. "Again? Which innocent person died before?" He probed, folding his arms with eyes peering at me. "Some of my friends were accused of theft so they were burnt to death by the indigenes of the community. I didn't know about it because it happened while I was at work, it wasn't until I returned that I was informed." I croake
Chapter 27Aurora's POV She's really free to leave? I glanced at Matteo who looked impatient and ready to return to work at any moment, wondering who might have spoke some sense into him. It wasn't my problem because Giselle would no longer be in this hell-hole. "Thank you so much, sir." Giselle croaked, her voice laced with tears as she dropped to her knees and thanked him. Matteo's face was red with embarrassment as he pulled he up. "Just return home and take care of yourself." He said and turned away from the both of us. My heart brimmed with excitement at his magnanimity and compassion. Maybe he was different from his father, but I couldn't just end my obsession for revenge. "Don't leave, Capo. I have something to tell you." Giselle chimed in, while I squinted my eyes in surprise. "What do you have to say?" "You should look into Antonio. I don't know the details but it seems like he was about to betray you before we had the argument today." She advised him, her shoulders
Chapter 28Matteo's POV My mind was filled with several thoughts as I drove to the club where Francesco was. I'd have asked him to meet me at home, but it was a formal meeting and I disliked tainting the serenity of my home with work issues. I parked at the club where I'd freed Giselle and Aurora's fierce kiss flashed into my mind. If freeing Giselle and going the extra mile for her was what it would take to have her lips on mine everyday, then I wouldn't stop. Finally I reached the club and got out of my car. Few people walked around, the strippers in the club were getting ready for the night while some bartenders arranged some drinks. Francesco sat on one of the stools, conversing with one of the female bartenders. She looked frail yet beautiful and I wondered why Francesco would engage in a conversation with someone like her. He sighted me and got down from his stool, "You returned quickly." "Yes. I had to," I replied, remembering how Aurora offered to find her way home so th
Chapter 29Aurora's POV "Why do my decisions against the Camorra make you sad?" His gentle but tricky question resonated in my head as I thought of a reply that wouldn't make him more suspicious than he already was. "It doesn't make me sad. I just feel that you are using their weakness against them, besides, what will you gain from them? They don't have anything to offer you," I replied and his piercing gaze told me that I'd talked too much. He cocked his head to the side and his lips twitched, "I wonder how you got to know so much about the Camorra." He growled while I maintained our eye contact, hoping that he would believe me. "My ears are working," I replied flatly, fiddling with my palms. What would happen if he decided to dig into my past? Maybe he had done that and didn't find anything to hold onto, because I doubted that he just accepted me without having a thorough check up on me. "You seem to know how the mafia works, but you aren't involved in the mafia. How possible
Chapter 30Matteo's POV I watched Giselle open the door wider, almost bumping into the maid who had announced her daughter's return. Aurora glanced at me and got up to go after her, giving me signs to do the same. Sofia sat on the couch with Danilo placing his hand on her shoulder. I glared at him and he retracted his hands quickly and straightened. "Where have you been, Sofia?" Giselle asked in a shrill voice and wrapped her arms around Sofia's neck. I looked away, trying to remember if my mother ever held me in such tender and loving manner. She always pushed me away and sometimes I wondered if she actually gave birth to me. "I'm sorry, mother, but I just couldn't deal with what I saw." Sofia replied, causing Giselle to pull away from the hug. I slanted a look at Aurora and discovered an uncanny resemblance between her and Sofia. I shook off the thought, knowing that they weren't related in anyway. Aurora glanced at me with a pitiful expression on her face. She looked like sh
Chapter 31Aurora's POV Giselle and Sofia exchanged confused looks, but I wanted her to live with us. There was every tendency of Sofia losing her standing with Danilo if she lived with him and it could cause a huge dent to the Outfit's image. "We'll stay in the Capo's house for the main time until Sofia gets married." Giselle decided and my heart leaped for joy. I couldn't explain the joy and peace I usually felt any time I was with Giselle. It was like we had a bond from the past which made me feel very safe and comfortable with her even though she murdered her husband. "That's a good decision. So pick up some of your things and come downstairs," Matteo instructed with his Capo tone while I beamed at him. How could I adore my enemy this much? I thought. "Can I visit her?" Danilo asked and Matteo squinted his eyes, pondering over his question. "Just to know how she's doing," He added. "You can, but you won't be allowed to stay alone with her." Matteo ordered and he inclined h
