“She died?”

I felt a constriction in my throat. The small hope that I didn’t even know I had about meeting one of my parents as an adult died.

“Yes, almost the same time as the zeta,”

Bernardo held me tightly as I sobbed. I felt like a piece of shit for thinking that my mom didn’t give a fuck about me, which was why she didn’t come for me when Dad passed. She died and my siblings were just as young as I was then. They didn’t get any special treatment either. We all grew up without our parents.

“I am sorry, baby,”

Bernardo whispered into my ears as he patted my back continuously to calm me down.”

“You did nothing wrong,”

I sniffed.

“I almost killed your brother.”

“Don’t say that. We both know you were trying to protect your sister.”

I said, and we both pulled out of the hug. He didn’t let me go completely.

“You gave me a scare tonight, Lyn. I didn’t mean what I told you earlier. I will never let you go. We belong together. Okay?”
