Hijacked.

Before she could make up her mind, the phone began to ring, vibrating in her hand. Anna stared at Gillian’s caller ID for a second before finally picking the call.

“Hey Anna.” Gillian’s voice sounded relaxed and leisurely, different from her usual tone in the office when dealing with subordinates.

“Gillian, I just saw your message.” Anna worried her bottom lip with her teeth. Should she accept it or not?

“Yeah, I called because I wasn’t sure you had seen it yet. What say you? Are you free this afternoon? I’d really like to see you today. Please, Anna, I don’t have other friends in the city. It gets quite boring hanging around with only Aiden or my brother all day.”

“I understand how you feel.” Anna tried to stem the feeling of guilt at having to refuse her new friend’s offer. “I don’t know if I’d be able to make it today…”
