40| The Truth Would Come Out

The air in Valerie's home hung heavy with the echoes of the past. Inside her room, Valerie struggled to contain her emotions, her mind a whirlwind of memories and confusion. She patted the kids to bed, and with tears, she slowly made her way to the kitchen to make them dinner.

She woke them to eat dinner and without much words, they ate and slept.

The following morning was quiet, Valerie knew she was harsh and scolded them coldly the previous day,

"Mom, we are sorry for upsetting you, we didn't mean to make you angry." Kyle said, hugging her.

"Yeah, we just wanted you to meet someone who looked like Kyle. We didn't think it would upset you." Kelly said.

Valerie, her voice wavering said, “It's not your fault, kids. I just... I wasn't expecting to see him again. It's complicated.”

The kids exchanged glances, searching for answers in each other's eyes.

“Who is he, Mom? Why did you get so upset?” Kyle asked hesitantly.
