(Leigh’s POV)
“This coffee is superb, Alex,” I heard my father complimenting Alex after breakfast.
I watched him make coffee for everyone and listened to him as he shared about their coffee farm. I feel like there is much more to learn about Alexander Hearst. Was I too busy with my life that I neglected to learn from Mei?
Alex glanced at me when my phone rang, but he returned his attention to my father, ignoring me as I took the call. Though I knew he was curious about who was my caller, he delightedly continued his conversation with Papa. With Chase-The-Family-Lawyer name appearing on the screen, I walked back to my bedroom to answer his call.
“Chase,” I said, pacing in my bedroom, fidgeting my hands, and thinking the call was a matter of life and death. My eyes darted to my reflection in the mirror. I move my head closer to the mirr
(Leigh’s POV) “Are you crazy? You want me to get you pregnant, and then I lose all my rights as the father?” Alex said angrily. I burst out laughing. I tried to speak, but I choked as tears rolled down my cheeks, unsure if it was because I wanted to cry or laugh at my joke. “You find humor in that, Kayleigh?” He snarled at me. I could see he was clenching his fists as he tried to control his anger, but before he could stand up, I held his two hands to stop him from getting out of the tub. “My god, Alex, we’re getting serious,” I chuckled softly. “And I was curious how you would react because I’ve seen this in the movie many times, but wow!” I shook my head, wiping my tears. “Woah! I didn’t know men would really react like that.” “You think it’s funny that you joke about keeping the child yourself?” He growled. &
(Alexander’s POV)Touch me again, Alex!Did Leigh just permit me to touch her? Yet the moment I reached out for her, just to hold her hand and nothing else, I felt Leigh stiffen. It was like all her blood went to her face, her almond eyes went round, her heart seemed to stop beating, and when it started pumping again, she startled me by jumping out of the bathtub.“W-w-what did I just say? Oh my, God!” She stuttered that when her phone rang again, her feet seemed to get stuck on the floor that she couldn’t walk toward the bathtub, and after a few seconds, she turned her back on me and started screaming as she walked out the door.My forehead creases as I realize that she has just placed herself inside the boiling water, and she was too embarrassed at what she had said. I get out of the bathtub to follow Leigh, pick up the phon
(Alexander’s POV)The grandfather clock played the melody at twelve noon, and it had been hours, but still, Leigh was not talking to me or any of her family members except for Royce and Kayla’s children. I watched her tirelessly clean her bedroom, re-arranged her already neatly folded clothes in the closets, books on the shelf, her things in the dresser, on the drawer, and by looking at her, I could easily remember where she placed things just in case she forgot where she put them. She placed her yoga mat in the living room, brought her jar, and her nephew and nieces helped her separate the colors of the pebbles. This won’t work. I have to talk to her, or she has to speak to me, or else I will go crazy. This might be normal for her family, but they have been with her for twenty-four years, but in my case, we were just married for four days.
(Leigh’s POV)When I opened my eyes, I saw my husband’s gorgeous face. I wondered what time he came home last night that Kayla was making fun of me already that I scared and pushed Alex away. I fell asleep worrying about him, but all my fears and worries fade away with him beside me.I snuggled closer to him, and after I did, he wrapped his arms around my body and kissed my forehead.“Good morning, Cupcake,” greeted Alex in his low and sexy voice.“Are you still mad at me?” I asked worriedly as I threw my head back to look at him. He raised his eyebrows, narrowed his eyes, and shook his head.“Why would I be mad at you?” He asked, kissing the tip of my nose and brushing my messy hair to the side of my face.“Because…” My voice trailed off, low
(Alexander’s POV)I was like crazy, pacing outside the bathroom door. I didn’t know what came to my mind for hurting her with my words, but I didn’t want to force Leigh into something she would regret in the end. She may not know it, but I promised her last night I would not let her fall deeper into this relationship. Her eyes were puffy from crying, making me feel more guilty. Kayleigh Hearst, my beautiful and full of wonders wife, who was good at hiding her feelings, was all-smiling at me as she came out of the bathroom door. “Ready for the final act, Mr. Hearst?” She asked as she walked past me to get clothes from her closet.“Should we be sweeter?” I asked as I looked elsewhere when she dropped the towel intentionally. “Are you testing me, Leigh?” I turned around, puffing air out of my
(Alexander’s POV)“Don’t you have a job?”“Hmm?” My eyebrows raised, glancing at Leigh, who was busy browsing someone on a social network page. She smiles sheepishly at me. “I mean, don’t you have other jobs? Sorry, Alex, but the one we’ll meet today -”“Another ex?” I cut in as I shake my head and focus my attention on the road. Although I have a hint already of who we will be meeting today, I would rather let her talk about him than guess.“Uh-huh,” she answers, pouting as she looks at the pictures and sighs most times.I touch my lips with my thumb, getting crazy with her silence and sighs. “Talk to me, Cupcake,”She pouted her lips and sighed again, causing me to shake my hands and stop the
(Leigh’s POV)Alfie whistled when he saw me. “Somebody’s read for a catfight, roar!” He handed me the folder of our set of proposals and glanced at Alex. “Good morning, Mr. Hearst!”“Just Alex, Alfie,” He corrected. “Don’t make it sound like I’m included in their business. Stay me out of it.”“Somebody woke up on the wrong side of the bed today,” Alfie rolled his eyes at me. “Coffee?”I shook my head, watching Alex as he sat down on the couch, taking the newspaper Alfie left when he saw us coming.“Not you,” Alfie said, puckering his lips at Alex. “I’m buying coffee at the coffee shop downstairs.”“Let me join you,” Alex told Alfie, standing up and placing the newspaper bac
(Leigh’s POV)“Don’t be funny, Alex,” I gritted my teeth, forcing a smile as I glanced at Alaska and Bernard. “Don’t overdo it because it’s not funny.”Alaska looked annoyed already, half-closing her eyes as she glared at the manager. Of course, she knew the owner of the restaurant, so the ‘Alex Joke’ being one of the owners won’t work.Alex heaves a deep sigh, nods at the manager, and says, “Fine! Call the owner, then,” he faces me and gives me a sullen look, but right now, I really don’t care. My nostrils flared in anger because he added more stress and anxiety to me.Mr. Smith smiled apologetically at us and stepped outside the private dining area to call the owner.“I told you this is a bad idea getting them as the coordinator,&
